With summer approaching, the beach is calling, and G-Shock's GA110AS-5A proved to be an ample partner-in-crime for the season. Its carefree nature, as it is a G-Shock, after all, sets the stage for a relaxing time, both active as well as passive.

As is often with a G-Shock, its dimensions look gigantic on paper, with a length of 55mm, a width of 51.2mm, and a height of 16.9mm. In reality, the perfect fit of the watch tones this down significantly, making it even a comfortable choice for those with smaller wrists. What helps in this matter is the low weight of the watch, as thanks to the bio-based resin of both the case and the strap, this just reaches the 72 grams.

The color scheme of this G-Shock seems to be made for the beach, with the beige of the case and strap resembling the sand. The vibrant blue dial is then, of course, the water. It has a slight metallic look to it, offering a bold contrast with the rest of the watch. With a water resistance of 200 meters/20 ATM, the watch is also not afraid of entering the water itself. The robust pushers are easy to operate, with imprints in the case telling you what function they operate.

When it comes to functions, this G-Shock has an abundance of them. The extensive world time function is perfect for spending vacations abroad, while the 1/1000-second stopwatch will happily time any more competitive events, should you choose to participate in some. Five daily alarms should be enough to keep even your naps well-timed, although the G-Shock also offers a snooze function. With this series, G-Shock combines an analog with a digital time display. This works nicely, although you must have the digital time activated in the lower display will you be able to read it with the LED light that can be activated with the top right button. While the amber glow resembles that of torches or a campfire on the beach, the reflection it casts on the hands makes it hard to read them. While some might have preferred a more functional solution to this, it is actually quite charming and befitting of the theme of the watch.

As can be expected of a G-Shock, this version is also good for worry-free enjoyment. This is not a common commodity in the world of watches, as not only does this G-Shock survive anything you put yourself through, but you also don't have to worry about things such as water and sand. The G-Shock handles it with grace. At $140,- it packs a ton of functions, comes with a comfortable strap that fits nearly any wrist size, and you also don't have to worry that it gets stolen off your wrist. That makes it one of the most capable and suitable watches to take with you while enjoying summer.
