Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono Patrouille de France: A Skyward Tribute

The Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono Patrouille de France is the fourth timepiece developed in collaboration with the renowned precision aerobatics demonstration unit of the French Air and Space Force. Officially commissioned in 1953, the new watch serves as a stunning homage to their breathtaking aerial formations of the Patrouille de France. These spectacular maneuvers, often showcased on Bastille Day and other high-profile events, are embedded in the design of this new pilot's chronograph.

The luminescent dial’s light blue hue evokes the image of a clear, cloudless sky—a tribute to the precision and grace of the Patrouille de France’s flight displays. This vibrant color is enhanced by a sunray finish, which not only adds depth but also serves as a fitting backdrop for the two sub-dials, which mirror the rounded shape of the square case. The inner, darker blue areas of these sub-dials are grooved to create a visual contrast, while the same deep blue tone is carried over onto the tachymeter scale that sits along the flange.

For clear legibility, the central chronograph second hand and the minute counter at 3 o’clock are highlighted in bold red. The discreet date window, nestled between 4 and 5 o’clock, is presented in dark blue against the light blue background. And, of course, the Patrouille de France logo graces the watch face, continuing a tradition seen in previous special editions.

The BR-05 Chrono Patrouille de France features Bell & Ross's signature stainless steel square case with rounded corners, complete with the four screws on the bezel, a design element that’s both distinctive and refined. The contrasting polished and satin finishes further emphasize the case’s bold design and extends to the integrated metal bracelet.

Water-resistant to 100 meters, the watch has a 42 mm diameter and a height of 14.25 mm. Inside, it houses a Sellita-based automatic movement, the BR-CAL.326. This integrated chronograph caliber, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a robust 60-hour power reserve. The movement’s exquisite finishing, including chamfered edges and perlage, is on full display through the sapphire crystal case back, which features the Patrouille de France imprint.

Pricing is marked at $7,400. Bell & Ross also offers an iteration with a blue leather strap retailing for $6,900.
