A New Hue: Laurent Ferrier Wows with Classic Auto Horizon
Laurent Ferrier, the Geneva-based independent watchmaker, unveiled the sixth installment in its exclusive Série Atelier collection in the Classic Auto Sandstone at last year’s Geneva Watch Days event. Since 2020, Laurent Ferrier has captivated its community with limited-edition timepieces. Continuing this tradition, the Classic Auto Sandstone was limited to just 20 pieces.
At Watches & Wonders 2025 Laurent Ferrier presented the Classic Auto Horizon, a new iteration that will be part of the brand's permanent collection. The manufacture watch is equipped with a round stainless steel case. Meticulously finished to a pebble-like shape and featuring an onion-style crown, it has a diameter of 40mm and a height of 11.94mm.
Like the previous editions, it delights with a stunning dial color, this time a light blue lacquer which is enhanced by a vertical satin-brushed center, displaying a spectrum of shades reminiscent of a horizon that shift with the light. This is complemented by a circular satin-brushed railway track on the flange, drop-shaped white gold indexes, spear-shaped Assegai hands in white gold and a grooved small seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock. The striking date window is framed in dark blue, in accordance with the central cross.
At the heart of the Classic Auto Sandstone is the brand’s LF 270.01 caliber, an automatic movement initially introduced in the Sport Auto. A testament to Laurent Ferrier’s dedication to precision, it features a Swiss lever escapement and a unidirectional ball bearing system. The micro-rotor, crafted from 950-platinum, ensures optimal winding power and stability, providing a power reserve of over 72 hours when fully wound.
The sapphire crystal case back reveals the intricately hand decorated movement with highest attention to detail, showcasing Laurent Ferrier’s renowned craftsmanship. Among the refined finishing techniques are beveling and mirror-polishing as well as rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève on all the bridges. The technical and visual highlight of the LF 270.01 is the platinum micro-rotor with engraving illustrating bird feathers. They are accompanied by chevrons indicating the winding direction.
Pricing is marked at CHF 45,000 excluding taxes or approximately $54,980 when converted to USD.
