Erwin Sattler Introduces Classica Lunaris

The indication of the moon phase is considered by some to be the most poetic complication, as it portrays the movements of the earth's satellite in miniature on the wrist. Aficionados particularly appreciate when the indication is painted by hand, as is the case with the Classica Lunaris, the latest wristwatch from Erwin Sattler.

This precision clock manufactory based near Munich, Germany, presents it in a classic form through a crescent-shaped window at 6 o'clock. Acting as a stylistic contrast, there is a "jumping" small seconds indication across at 12 o'clock, where the subsidiary seconds hand is purposely advanced in a step-by-step fashion.

Serving as a stunning backdrop is a silver dial with classic railroad minute markers, Roman numerals and blued hands. They are driven by an automatic caliber based on the ETA/Valjoux 7750, which beats inside the 44-mm stainless steel case finely polished to a distortion-free mirror finish.

The timepiece is equipped with a skeletonized and guilloched oscillation weight by the well known and highly respected craftsman Jochen Benzinger, who is based in the German "gold city" of Pforzheim. It can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. The Erwin Sattler Classica Lunaris is worn on a hand-stitched leather strap and is priced at 10,800 euros or approximately $11,500 when converted to USD.
