MB&F SP One Pavée: The Floating Architecture Takes on Diamonds

A Precious Take on the SP One

When MB&F introduced the SP One in 2025, the watch marked a distinctly different direction for the independent Swiss brand. At 38mm, it was smaller and more restrained than the company’s typically exuberant creations, yet its three-dimensional movement architecture remained unmistakably MB&F. Now, the exceptional timepiece returns in a more precious guise. The new SP One Pavée combines an 18-karat white-gold case with 255 diamonds, while a dark-blue sub dial replaces the black treatment of the original versions.

At the heart of the design are two elements that are normally hidden in the architecture of a mechanical watch: the mainspring barrel and the balance wheel. Here, they are deliberately exposed and arranged to appear suspended within an amphitheater-like structure. Sapphire crystals on the front and back reinforce the impression, leaving the components seemingly free of any visible support.

The Pavée version retains this unusual architecture while introducing a new combination of materials and colors. The 18-karat white-gold case, amphitheater ring, crown and clasp are set with diamonds that follow their individual contours. The inclined dial with-hour-and-minute indication positioned at 6 o’clock is finished in dark-blue PVD, providing a deeper and more colorful backdrop in front of the suspended movement. The unusual composition is not simply a stylistic choice: it also opens up the view of the movement’s conical gear train and reinforces the watch’s three-dimensional design.

Three Elements, One Floating Composition

The movement was developed in-house by MB&F and is built around the same three-part concept. The suspended mainspring barrel and balance are particularly prominent, while the inclined dial offers a view of the conical gear train. Much of the supporting structure is deliberately concealed, giving the visible components a sense of separation within the case. The manually-wound movement operates at 2.5 Hz and stores 72 hours of power. Its finishing combines hand-polished bevels and hand engraving with satin-brushed, polished and microblasted surfaces. In the SP One Pavée, the bridges are rhodium-coated.

A Pebble-Shaped White-Gold Case

The 38mm case measures 12mm in height and 41.9mm from lug to lug. Its smooth, pebble-like form is defined by the absence of a conventional bezel. Sapphire crystals extend across both sides, while the finely shaped lugs emerge from the lower part of the case, creating a subtle separation between the upper case and the hand-finished lugs.

The SP One Pavée is completed by a calfskin strap and an 18-karat white-gold clasp set with diamonds. In total, 255 diamonds weighing 1.608 carats are used: 165 on the case, 55 on the amphitheater ring, 14 on the crown and 21 on the clasp. Pricing is marked at $104,000.
