Cool Color for a Classic

Nomos Glashütte gives its Metro collection a fresh look with two new ice-blue editions. Inspired by the glass-and-steel designs of modern urban architecture, their dials shift in appearance with the light, ranging from cool blue to an almost luminous white, with hints of blue-green and muted gray. Designed by Berlin-based product designer Mark Braun, the Metro has combined clean lines, fine details, and playful color for an unmistakable style since its introduction in 2014.

The original Metro date power reserve was also the first Nomos watch to feature the manufacture’s proprietary Swing System escapement. The new Metro date power reserve ice blue and Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue retain the collection’s distinctive design language while introducing a cooler, more contemporary palette.

Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue: A New Hand-Wound Caliber

The Metro date power reserve ice blue features a 37mm stainless-steel case measuring just 8mm thick. Its metallic dial combines blue and white dot markers with gray minute numerals. A three-color power reserve indicator in white, light blue, and blue-green adds a distinctive detail to the otherwise restrained design. The collection’s slender signature hands take their inspiration from skyscrapers. Other defining details include the grooved small-seconds subdial and the prominent date display at 6 o’clock. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters.

The more significant development is inside the case: the new manually wound DUW 4701 caliber makes its debut in this model, replacing the DUW 4401 used in the original 2014 version. Measuring just 2.8mm thick, the manufacture movement offers an improved 52-hour power reserve. The stop-seconds mechanism, quick-set date, and patented power-reserve and date displays are all retained.

The sapphire caseback reveals typical Nomos finishing details inspired by the art of Glashütte watchmaking, including a skeletonized balance cock, perlage, gold engravings, and sunburst decoration around the Swing System. The watch comes equipped with a black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan leather strap. Pricing is set at $4,500.

Metro neomatik 41 Update Ice Blue

The Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue takes a larger approach with a 40.5mm stainless-steel case measuring 9.1mm thick. It is powered by the tried-and-tested, beautifully finished automatic DUW 6101 caliber, which delivers a 48-hour power reserve.

Its defining feature is the award-winning ring-date display, which places the entire month around the outer edge of the dial. Two blue-green markers frame the current date, creating a graphic counterpoint to the fine markers and metallic finish of the dial. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters, while the gray woven textile strap is also water-resistant. Pricing is set at $5,390.
