For those looking for something a bit different than the traditional round watch, you don’t have to listen to the 1986 song "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News to be convinced of the benefits of having a square or cushion-shaped watch on your wrist. Here are five options that couldn’t be more different from each other.

Racing

More than 50 years after the birth of the Heuer Monaco, TAG Heuer is releasing three new models with a skeleton dial for the first time. Shown here is the “Original Blue” (Ref. CBL2182.FT6235), which draws inspiration from the first-ever TAG Heuer Monaco blue dial. The blue and red colors are featured on the dial; the blue on the column wheel and the oscillating mass engravings. Inside the sandblasted 39-mm titanium (grade 2) case is the brand’s Calibre Heuer 02. $10,750.

Mondaine is extending its collection with the new Cushion Collection in two different sizes, 31 and 41 mm, following the official Swiss railway station design and featuring the brand’s signature red second hand. The larger version integrates a chronograph and is powered by the Ronda 5030; shown here is the MSL.41410.LBV.SET with white dial. $595.

The Historiques American 1921 was launched in 1921 and specifically designed for the American market during the Roaring Twenties, the faithful re-edition (Ref. 82035/000G-B735 in white gold) of Vacheron Constantin's quintessential driving watch allows reading of the time behind the steering wheel without needing to turn the wrist. The 40-mm watch features a railway dial train and black-painted Arabic numerals, as well as a small seconds between 3 and 4 o’clock. Its manualwinding movement (4400 AS) offers a power reserve of nearly 3 days. $36,800.

Diving

The latest BR 03-92 Diver from Bell & Ross comes with a 42-mm bronze case (CuSn8, composed of 92 percent copper and 8 percent tin) and a pearl white dial with matching date disk; the caseback of the 300-meter water-resistant dive watch is made of stainless steel. The movement behind it is the Calibre BR-CAL.302 (Sellita SW300-1); the production is limited to 999 pieces. $4,700.
