Let There Be Light: TAG Heuer Introduces Its First Solar Powered Watch

At Watches & Wonders 2022, TAG Heuer introduced a first in its history: the Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph. As the name suggests, this diver's watch, which is water resistant to a depth of 200 meters, is driven by a solar movement.

Based on TH50-00, which is exclusively produced for TAG Heuer by the Swiss caliber specialist La Joux-Perret, the Solargraph recharges with the sun or artificial light using “Eco-Drive” solar dial technology. This movement needs only two minutes in full sunlight to keep the watch running for a whole day. When fully charged – after less than 20 hours under the sun, the watch can run for six months. If the timepiece stops working, it just needs to be exposed to light for ten seconds to make it work again.

The sun will not only power the movement of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph, it also lightens the Super-LumiNova elements of the watch. The bezel, black sunray brushed dial, and hands feature a Super-Luminova coating allowing the watch to create outstanding legibility at nightfall. In addition to lending this special edition of the sought after diver's watch an extraordinary and brightened look, the technology allows to do sports at night with this highly legible watch on the wrist.

To better reflect the luminous contrast produced, TAG Heuer equips the debutante with a 40mm steel case sporting a black DLC coating and bezel inserts made of a blend of carbon and green Super-LumiNova. This lends each piece a unique effect, much like the ridges that naturally form on rocks over time.

The Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph is outfitted with a black rubber strap including an extension system and double-safety push buttons and will be sold worldwide in the brand’s boutiques and on TAG Heuer’s e-commerce site starting October 2022. Pricing has not been publicly communicated yet.
