Light and Shadow: Meet the Trilobe Nuit Fantastique Ombre and Lumière

Trilobe, the young French independent brand, introduces a new interpretation of its extraordinary approach to telling time with the Nuit Fantastique Ombre et Lumière duo. Eschewing traditional hands, these watches use three rotating discs to indicate hours, minutes, and seconds. The hour indicator rotates along the outer edge of the dial, aligning with the static Trilobe logo at 12 o'clock. The minutes and seconds are displayed in a figure-eight configuration, symbolizing infinity, positioned on the left side of the dial.

A striking detail is the Clous-de-Paris guilloché pattern that adorns the center of the subsidiary seconds dial. This minimalist dial design is further enhanced by the fine grain of the surface, which creates a subtle sense of depth and a captivating play of light. Trilobe offers two versions that live up to their names: Ombre and Lumière. The Ombre model features a dark dial with bright indicators, while the Lumière iteration reverses the color scheme. Both are available in two sizes, with a diameter of either 38.5mm or 40.5 mm. The exceptionally thin case, measuring just 9.2 mm in height, is made of lightweight and durable Grade 5 titanium, combining brushed and polished surfaces for a classic, contemporary design.

Inside, behind a sapphire case back, beats the exclusive X-Centric manufacture caliber, made specifically for Trilobe. This automatic movement, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, features a micro-rotor and offers a power reserve of 48 hours. The dark, finely grained bridges and plates, along with the black leather strap, reflect the watch’s color scheme and complement the harmonious appeal of the Nuit Fantastique.
