Nomos Introduces its First Bracelet in Update to Club Campus Line

Nomos has taken an incremental approach to expanding its various collections and lines over the past decade or so. Despite what its large — and constantly growing — audience has demanded, each launch for Nomos is guided by what it can produce in either its Berlin design studio or one of its three Glashütte workshops. As you likely know, Nomos has made a huge investment into becoming one of the most vertically integrated manufactures in today's watch industry, even producing its own escapement with the proprietary Swing System that was launched in 2014. Aesthetic updates, like a bracelet option, have also been limited by this approach. Until now, that is.

As of this morning, Nomos has introduced its first line of watches to include the option for a bracelet. The three watches announced today are a part of the existing Campus series of timepieces. Originally launched in 2017, the circular Campus models are a spin-off of the tentpole Club line for the German brand. The trio of timepieces not only are the first watches with bracelet to join Nomos, but are also the first automatic — or neomatik, to borrow the Nomos lingo — models within the Campus line. The previous three Campus watches were powered by the manually winding Alpha, which was Nomos's first in-house movement. Today's release utilizes the neomatik DUW 3001, which was the first automatic movement equipped with the NOMOS swing system.

A majority of the details from the original Club Campus launch carry over. The California dial, closed stainless-steel caseback for optional engraving, water resistance to 200 meters, sapphire crystal, and overall coloful and youthful aesthetic all remain the same. What is new however is the dial color options and sizing. Previously only available in either 36 mm or 38.5 mm, the new Club Campus iterations grow slightly to introduce new sizing at 37 mm and 39.5 mm. Also new is the fact that the dial and numeral colorways differ slightly with new options in either midnight blue or galvanized white with either dark blue or silver Super-LumiNova numerals.

The most exciting news for Nomos fans with this release will, of course, be the addition of the brand's first metal bracelet. Details remain sparse but what we do know is that it was designed by Nomos in its Berlin design studio and is finished and polished by hand in Glashütte. As of now, the stainless-steel bracelet is completely exclusive to the three neomatik-equipped Club Campus models, however, I wouldn't be surprised to see its expansion throughout the rest of the brand's collections in March at Baselworld 2019.

The addition of an in-house automatic movement and bracelet comes at a premium when compared to the original trio. Nomos Club Campus Reference 748 with galvanized white dial and silver numerals is priced at $2,780; Nomos Club Campus Reference 767 in midnight blue is priced at $2,980; Nomos Club Campus Reference 765 with a galvanized white dial and dark blue numerals is priced at $3,020. The three previous models were all priced between $1,500 and $1,650.
