Showing at WTNY 2022: Norqain's Wild One Collection Clad in Newly Developed Norteq Material
Swiss watch brand Norqain has built a strong reputation for itself in just four years since its debut. Joining its growing catalog is the newly introduced Wild One collection, which utilizes a novel carbon fiber composite material dubbed Norteq. Along with the experimental use of materials, the line offers a new case shape adding to the brand's growing design framework.
The Wild One collection is among the first projects spearheaded by Norqain's newly appointed advisor to the board, Jean-Claude Biver, who assumed the role only a few months ago in June of 2022. It consists of four time-only executions, including two limited editions, one of which was designed in collaboration with wildlife ambassador Dean Schneider. The sporty collection is set to make its U.S. debut at WatchTime New York 2022.
The new Norteq material that the brand opts for in the case design is far more lightweight than the steel and titanium on the exterior of Norqains previous releases. As such, the Wild One sports watches are optimized for high performance with an emphasis on versatility. Norteq is able to be produced in a variety of colorways beyond the matte black tint that is the standard for other similar carbon fiber materials.
Beyond the use of a new material, the overall case design was strategically developed in partnership with BIWI to maximize durability. The design features two separate pieces that connect with custom-made screws which effectively act like a protective cage around the movement and dial. Between the two pieces is a shock-absorbent, rubber layer that reliably protects the movement from disruption, especially in the event of sport-induced agitations.
The three-level laser-cut dial features an intricate mandala-like pattern of Norqain’s mountain-inspired double-N logo. Each level is spaced 0.05mm apart, activating the dial pattern with a 3D effect. The X1 Superluminova-enhanced indexes, hour, minute, and second hands are all skeletonized.
Driving the hands is the brand’s NN20/1 three-hand manufacture caliber produced by Kenissi. The movement boasts a sturdy construction with a two-point fixation traversing bridge that ensures timekeeping accuracy even in the event of strenuous activity. On display through a transparent caseback, the self-winding movement is distinguished by some of Norqain's hallmark design elements like the golden “double-N” logo on the oscillating weight.
In addition to C.O.S.C. precision certification, according to the brand, the watch has also undergone stringent laboratory tests conducted at 5000 g to entire robustness and shock resistance. The sporty newcomers offer 200 meters of water resistance and a "weekend-proof" power reserve of 70 hours.
The Norqain Wild One is available for serial production in two colorways: one with a black case and dial and a khaki rubber shock absorber and matching strap, and a second with a black case with a blue rubber shock absorber, dial, and strap retailing for $5,290 each. The third iteration is limited to 200 pieces and features a burgundy case, gray dial with red gold indices, and a gray strap and matching rubber shock absorber retailing for $5,690.
