Gérald Genta Returns Wows with a Minute Repeater

At Geneva Watch Days 2025, the Gérald Genta watch brand reemerges with a creation that is both technically complex and artistically refined: the Minute Repeater. Crafted at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the timepiece is conceived as a modern homage to Mr. Genta’s instinctive artistry and enduring fascination with chiming complications. With its slender yellow gold case, lustrous onyx dial, and entirely in-house caliber, the new Minute Repeater speaks to the union of the art of repeater watches and sculptural design that defined Genta’s oeuvre.

A Legacy in Sound

Among the many complications Gérald Genta worked on throughout his career, the minute repeater was one of his most cherished. As early as the 1980s, he was among the few watchmakers exploring its acoustic possibilities, pioneering water-resistant and automatic versions and insisting on case designs that amplified resonance and clarity. Today, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton carries forward that legacy with the new cushion-shaped case, deliberately engineered to optimize the transmission of sound while retaining a striking elegance on the wrist. The 40mm case in 3N yellow gold measures just 9.60mm in height, its softly cushioned form blending brushed and polished surfaces with double gadroons and a single lug strap attachment. Reduced to as little as 0.6mm at its thinnest point, the case walls act as a resonating chamber for the repeater’s crystalline tones. The black onyx dial reinforces both aesthetic and acoustic purity, its intensity heightened by gold indexes arranged along a subtly transformative minute track that evokes the cushion form.

At the heart of the watch is the manual-winding caliber GG-002, developed entirely at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the guidance of master watchmakers Enrico Barbasini and Michel Navas. Each gong is tuned by hand and ear to achieve an exceptionally clear, high-volume chime with a single revolution. Traditional haute horlogerie finishes, including Côtes de Genève, hand-beveled angles, and snailing, enhance the caliber, which also incorporates an octagonal inertia wheel as a tribute to Genta’s favorite form. With an 80-hour power reserve and over four weeks of assembly time per movement, the GG-002 reflects both artistry and technical prowess. Therefore, only ten pieces will produced annually.
