Glashütte Original Celebrates 180 Years with the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition in Platinum

From the earliest days of horology, astronomy and watchmaking have been inseparably linked. Long before precise mechanical movements existed, the passage of time was measured by observing the stars, the sun, and the phases of the moon. Astronomical observations not only provided the first reliable timekeepers but also inspired the complications—such as moon phases, calendars, and sidereal time—that remain hallmarks of fine watchmaking today. In many ways, the pursuit of ever-greater accuracy in watchmaking began as a dialogue with the cosmos. This long-standing connection between the stars and precision mechanics forms the backdrop for Glashütte Original’s latest creation, the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition. Celebrating 180 years of Glashütte fine watchmaking in 2025, the luxury manufactory pays tribute to this heritage. Guided by the stars, Glashütte’s watchmakers quickly turned celestial observation into mechanical mastery, establishing the town’s world-renowned reputation for precision. By the 1870s, Glashütte’s pocket watches were already surpassing the accuracy of local astronomical observation, and the 1880 telegraphic link to the Berlin Observatory marked the dawn of a new era of precision. This chapter is now honored with the limited anniversary edition of the signature PanoMaticLunar. Clad in platinum and featuring the brand’s first aventurine dial, only 180 pieces will be produced.

The PanoMaticLunar has long been a cornerstone of the brand’s contemporary portfolio, recognizable by its asymmetrical dial layout with off-center time display, Panorama Date, and moon phase. For the first time, Glashütte Original’s dial makers have worked with aventurine glass—a material renowned for its deep blue sparkle, invented by Murano artisans in the 17th century. The shimmering surface recalls the brilliance of the night sky, a fitting tribute to the role of the stars in Glashütte’s watchmaking history. Paired with white-gold hands, Super-LumiNova accents, and solid-gold indexes, at 2 o’clock the moon phase display reveals a mother-of-pearl moon set against a matching aventurine sky, seamlessly blending into the dial.

Beneath the glittering dial the automatic Calibre 92-14 makes its debut in the PanoMaticLunar, encased in a 40-mm platinum case. Equipped with a silicon balance spring, the manufacture movement resists both magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations while operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. A 100-hour power reserve ensures reliability in daily wear, the stop-seconds function allows for precise time setting.

Through the sapphire case back, collectors can admire the refied architecture and the mechanical beauty of traditional Glashütte finishing, including the signature three-quarter plate with stripe finish and hand-engraved details, blued screws, screwed gold chatons and perlage. A particular feast for the eyes is the swan-neck fine adjustment that has been a typical feature of Glashütte watch construction since 1888.
