Breguet Introduces Latest Marine 5517 and Marine Chronographe 5527

Breguet is introducing new versions of its Marine 5517 and Marine Chronographe 5527, bringing a new dial design and a fresh palette of colors to the seafaring collection. The 40mm three-hand Marine 5517 and 42.3mm Marine Chronographe 5527 are offered in white gold, rose gold  and titanium. Each version features a luminescent 18-karat gold dial with a new guilloché pattern, Breguet numerals and hands, a date indication positioned at 3 o'clock. Breguet is offering them either on a matching metal bracelet or a rubber strap whose surface echoes the guilloché of the dial. 

From Marine Chronometers to Contemporary Luxury Sports Watches

Abraham-Louis Breguet was fascinated by every aspect of watchmaking, including marine chronometry, which demanded exceptional knowledge and scientific expertise. In the fall of 1815, King Louis XVIII appointed him Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy. This marked the beginning of a tradition that is carried forward today by the Marine collection. Its combination robust cases and maritime-inspired dials gives the collection its distinctive nautical character. Previous Marine models have emphasized this connection with wave-pattern guilloché on their dials reminiscent of navigating the high seas. For the new editions, Breguet replaces this motif with the “Quai de l’Horloge” pattern. This design was introduced for the Maison’s 250th anniversary and takes its name from the Paris address where Abraham-Louis Breguet established a workshop and actually produced marine chronometers. The pattern is inspired by the contours of the Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis and also evokes the movement of smaller waves on the Seine, adding a distinctly historical Breguet signature.

The Marine 5517 is the more straightforward of the two models, combining a three-hand display with a date at 6 o’clock. Its 40mm case measures 11.5 mm thick and is available in 18-karat white gold, 18-karat rose gold and titanium. The fluted middle case, screw-down crown and 100-meter water resistance contribute to its sporty character. The dials are also crafted from solid gold and manually guillochéd with the “Quai de l’Horloge” pattern before being finished with colored lacquer. The white-gold version features an ice-blue dial, while the rose-gold model combines the intricate pattern with black lacquer. The titanium version takes on a darker blue finish. 

The most noticeable change is the use of Breguet Arabic numerals, replacing the Roman numerals of the previous editions. Their design draws inspiration from the historic Marine chronometer No. 104 and they are set on a raised ring that clearly separates them from the dial background. They are paired with Breguet’s characteristic apple-shaped hands. The seconds hand features a subtle “B” motif referencing the “Bravo” maritime flag, while the minute track takes its cues from nautical signal flags. The date display has also moved from 3 to 6 o’clock, creating a more symmetrical and balanced dial layout.

The Marine 5517 is powered by Breguet’s self-winding Caliber 777A, which measures just 4.3mm thick and provides a power reserve of 55 hours. Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement features a silicon balance spring and comprises 235 components. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, its beautifully finished architecture includes an 18-karat gold oscillating weight inspired by the shape of a ship’s rudder.

Breguet Marine 5527

The Marine Chronographe 5527 takes the same design language into a more technical direction, adding a flyback chronograph and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. Its 42.3mm case measures 13.9mm thick and is also available in white gold, rose gold or titanium. Here, Breguet combines the new guilloché pattern with graduated color. The white- and rose-gold versions feature blue-gradient dials, while the titanium model takes on a gray gradient. The nautical clues are evident here, too, such as in the central chronograph carrying the “B” and the wave-shaped crown guard.

The 5527, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, sets sail with Breguet’s automatic Caliber 582QA, operating at 4 Hz and offering a 48-hour power reserve. This movement too incorporates a silicon balance spring and silicon inverted anchor. Pricing is available on request.
