Montblanc introduces the Minerva The Unveiled Crownless, a timepiece that distills the brand’s heritage of hand‑finished watchmaking and technical innovation into a strikingly symmetrical, crown‑free design. Building on Minerva’s historic expertise in bezel‑controlled mechanisms, the new model eliminates the traditional winding crown entirely— placing both winding and time‑setting functions directly into the fluted, bidirectional bezel. The result is a watch that blends vintage inspiration with modern engineering, while showcasing the artisanal finishing that defines Minerva’s manufacture in Villeret.

Minerva’s fascination with bezel‑controlled mechanisms dates back nearly a century. In 1927, the manufacture developed one of the earliest military pilot’s watches that allowed aviators to operate key functions via the bezel— an essential advantage when thick gloves made crown manipulation difficult. By rotating the bezel, pilots could adjust an internal timing ring to track flight stages and navigation intervals. This historical concept has resurfaced in several modern Minerva creations, most notably the 2023 Unveiled Timekeeper, a chronograph whose start‑stop‑reset functions were entirely bezel‑driven. The new Unveiled Crownless takes the idea even further: it becomes the first Minerva wristwatch to eliminate the crown altogether. Winding and time‑setting are now performed exclusively through the bezel.

To transfer both winding and time‑setting to the bezel, Minerva developed an entirely new movement: the hand‑wound Caliber M15.08 with small seconds that focuses solely on displaying the time. Manufactured and finished entirely in Villeret, the movement reflects Minerva’s classical architecture and artisanal approach. Operating at a traditional 18,000 vph, the M15.08 delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve, made possible by a large mainspring barrel. Its 139 components include elegantly curved bridges crafted from rhodium‑plated German silver, each with polished and hand‑chamfered edges. Wide Geneva stripes, perlage, and gold‑finished gearwork highlight the movement’s depth and symmetry. Precision is ensured by a free‑sprung balance with finely regulated inertia weights mounted on a proprietary Minerva balance spring. The regulator’s shape echoes the signature Minerva arrow— an emblem of the manufacture’s identity.

The Minerva The Unveiled Crownless is housed in a 41.5mm case crafted from stainless steel and pink gold, achieving a harmonious balance between modern proportions and vintage‑inspired elegance. Without a crown interrupting the silhouette, the case exhibits a rare, uninterrupted symmetry. Its 12mm  height (including the rose‑gold fluted bezel and domed sapphire crystal) gives the watch a refined presence suitable for formal wear. Downward‑sloping, faceted lugs ensure comfort on the wrist, while the fully polished surfaces meet in crisp, sculpted lines that emphasize the case’s curvature. The watch is paired with a dark‑green alligator strap featuring a semi‑matte finish and a new triple‑folding clasp with an integrated fine‑adjustment system.

The dial is a piece of art. It draws inspiration from a Minerva model of the 1950s but introduces contemporary textures and colors. A central opaline section is framed by a guilloché outer ring, onto which faceted, gold‑plated hour markers are applied. The small seconds at 6 o’clock provides visual balance to the vintage Minerva logo and the rose‑gold Arabic “12” at the top of the dial. The gold‑plated, hand‑finished dauphine hands echo the warm tones of the rose‑gold bezel and the engraved “Depuis 1858” inscription on the mid‑case. Pricing is marked at $38,000.
