Nomos Glashütte Orion Gold neomatik new black: Dressed to the Nines

When it comes to the dress watch, the old adage “less is more” could hardly be more fitting. Few watches embody this idea as convincingly as the Orion, which has remained one of Nomos Glashütte’s most understated designs for years. Its appeal lies in a deliberate absence of anything unnecessary: slender hour markers, fine hands and the small seconds at 6 o’clock are all this watch needs to make its presence felt. Now, the brand takes the Orion into more luxurious territory with the new Orion Gold neomatik new black. The familiar minimalist design is paired with an 18-karat gold case, a deep black dial, and matching gold-colored hour markers and hands. The contrast between the warm glow of the precious metal and the rich black dial gives the restrained design an unmistakably sophisticated character.

Slim, Curved, and Refined

The Orion Gold neomatik new black retains the collection’s distinctive, softly curved case, which measures 36.4mm across and just 8.5mm thick. Its slender, tapering lugs extend gracefully from the case and follow the contours of the wrist, while the narrow bezel leaves plenty of room for the dial to take center stage. The watch’s slim profile is made possible in large part by the automatic movement inside. Nomos Glashütte’s in-house DUW 3001 measures just 3.2mm in height while providing around 43 hours of power reserve. 

A View into the Heart

The sapphire crystal case back offers a clear view of the finely finished movement, including the Nomos Swing System with its thermally blued balance spring. The bidirectionally winding rotor is partially skeletonized, while the characteristic Glashütte three-quarter plate underscores the movement’s traditional architecture.
