Doxa Brings Grade 5 Titanium Back to the SUB 300 for Clive Cussler Edition
The 300-piece edition adds a layered titanium dial
There are watches that become inseparable from the people who wear them — or, in this case, from the characters who made them famous. For Clive Cussler, the Doxa SUB 300 was far more than a favorite dive watch. Worn by his fictional hero Dirk Pitt, it became an enduring symbol of adventure literature. To commemorate what would have been the bestselling author’s 95th birthday, Doxa presents a new limited edition of its iconic 1967 dive watch. Like the three previous Clive Cussler editions, it remains faithful to the design language of the original SUB 300 while introducing two notable updates: a Grade 5 titanium case and an innovative two-level dial construction.
Originally planned as a limited edition of just 95 pieces in honor of Cussler’s birthday, Doxa ultimately increased production to 300 numbered watches following strong demand. As with previous collaborations, a portion of the proceeds will support the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), the nonprofit organization founded by Cussler to locate and preserve historic shipwrecks.

Clad in Titanium
With this edition, Doxa brings Grade 5 titanium back to a collection now dominated by stainless-steel models. Chosen for its outstanding strength-to-weight ratio and exceptional corrosion resistance, the material is particularly well suited to the demands of professional diving. The distinctive tonneau-shaped case measures 42.5mm by 45mm and 13.4mm thick, and offers 300 meters of water resistance. It retains the collection’s hallmark unidirectional rotating bezel with Doxa’s patented dual-scale dive table, originally developed in cooperation with the U.S. Navy. The outer ring displays dive depths in feet and is finished in the brand’s signature Doxa Orange, a high-visibility color first introduced on the original SUB 300 in 1967.

A New Sandwich Dial
Titanium makes its debut not only in the case, but also in the dial. Constructed from two Grade 5 titanium layers, the new dial creates a striking sense of depth while preserving the exceptional legibility for which the SUB 300 is known. The lower layer of the dial carries the Super-LumiNova-coated hour markers and minute track, while the upper plate features laser-cut openings that precisely reveal the luminous elements beneath. The scratch-resistant, anti-reflective box-style sapphire crystal further enhances the subtle three-dimensional effect. The oversized minute hand, one of the SUB collection’s defining features, appears in Doxa Orange to ensure instant readability underwater. The historic signature color also highlights the numbers 15, 7, and 31 on the date wheel, referencing Clive Cussler’s birth date: July 15, 1931.

A COSC-Certified Movement
Inside the titanium case, beneath a solid caseback engraved with the NUMA emblem, beats the COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, it delivers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
The watch comes fitted with a black Dive Flex rubber strap featuring a vintage-inspired Tropic-style pattern and a pin buckle reminiscent of the original SUB models from the late 1960s.
The Doxa SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler is limited to 300 individually numbered pieces and priced at $3,390.
