Introducing the TAG Heuer Unveils the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph Air 1

TAG Heuer opens a bold new chapter in its chronograph legacy with the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph Air 1, unveiling a radical case architecture made possible by aerospace-grade additive manufacturing.

The new Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph Air 1 represents a significant step forward for TAG Heuer, pairing an avant-garde case constructed using Selective Laser Melting with its most complex chronograph movement to date. Built in an ultra-lightweight titanium frame with sculpted geometric forms reminiscent of hypercar aerodynamics, the limited edition marks the beginning of a new era for the Monaco line and for TAG Heuer’s broader pursuit of high-performance watchmaking.

The 41mm square case of the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph Air 1 immediately signals its departure from traditional construction. Created using Selective Laser Melting, a precision additive manufacturing technique adapted by the TAG Heuer LAB, the case appears hollowed-out and aerodynamic, shaped as if it were tested in a wind tunnel. The latticework surrounding the movement blends Grade-5 titanium with solid yellow gold elements, forming an exoskeletal structure inspired by the mesh engine covers of modern hypercars. Despite its richly detailed build, the watch weighs only 85 grams, underscoring its motorsport-inspired commitment to performance. A translucent sapphire dial reveals the architecture beneath, while the black DLC-coated bezel, sculpted pushers, golden hands and markers, and a gold split-seconds pusher at 9 o’clock reinforce its technical yet luxurious character.

At the heart of the new Monaco is Caliber TH81-00, a high-frequency automatic movement developed in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. Constructed with major components in Grade-5 titanium, it weighs just 30 grams and delivers a 65-hour power reserve. Beating at 36,000 vph, the movement drives a split-seconds function capable of timing two events simultaneously — a complication that speaks directly to TAG Heuer’s long history of precision sports timing. Hand-finished details, including the signature checkered-flag motif visible through the sapphire case back, further emphasize the movement’s haute horlogerie pedigree.
