Breitling Launches Navitimer Cosmonaute Artemis II with Meteorite Dial

Following renewed global attention on lunar exploration and the Artemis mission program, Breitling earlier this month introduced the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II, featuring a meteorite dial and a serving as a direct link to its historic role in spaceflight.

The relationship between the Navitimer and space began in 1962, when astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a specially adapted version of the watch during his orbital flight aboard Aurora 7. Designed to his specifications, the 24-hour Cosmonaute became the first Swiss wristwatch worn in space and established a functional link between Breitling and space exploration that continues to this day. In the context of renewed interest in lunar missions, including the Artemis program, Breitling this spring revisited this heritage with a new limited edition: the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II, produced in 450 pieces and defined by a galaxy-blue meteorite dial.

Cut from extraterrestrial iron-nickel material, each dial displays a naturally formed Widmanstätten pattern, meaning no two pieces are identical. The deep, galaxy-blue finish reinforces the connection to space while preserving the signature character of the Navitimer. Red accents on the chronograph seconds hand and scale provide contrast, while Superluminova coating ensures legibility in low-light conditions. The Cosmonaute remains distinct within the Navitimer family through its 24-hour display, designed for orbital conditions where conventional day-night cycles do not apply. The layout was originally created for Scott Carpenter’s mission and remains central to the model today. The watch retains the full Navitimer architecture, including the circular slide rule, AOPA wings logo, and three-register chronograph configuration.

At its core is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B02, a manual-winding chronograph movement developed specifically for this edition’s functional requirements. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of approximately 66 hours, the movement uses a column-wheel chronograph mechanism with vertical clutch and is COSC-certified. The case measures 41mm in diameter and 13mm in height, with a cambered sapphire crystal and sapphire case back. The case back is engraved with “Artemis II” and “One of 450,” marking its limited production.
