Certina's DS-2 Chronograph Automatic commemorates the DS-2 Chronolympic, which was once worn on Mount Everest and featured in an Oscar-winning documentary in 1970.

Back then, five examples of the Chronolympic made it to the top of the world's highest mountain as part of a Japanese expedition. Alpinist Yuichiro Miura completed the descent on skis with one of these watches on his wrist. His "ride down Mount Everest" stretched over 2,000 meters and was completed at a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The daring descent was captured in the film of the same name (original title: "The Man Who Skied Down Everest").

True to the origins, the case of the new chronograph boasts a tonneau shape. It measures 43.3mm by 40.5 mm, remains water-resistant to 20 bar, and is made of stainless steel. The DS-2 Chronograph Automatic is powered by the self-winding ETA caliber A05.231 with a magnetic-resistant silicon hairspring. It displays the time, small seconds, and date on the dial. Like the hour markers, the two large hands are coated with Superluminova for best legibility at night. The dial is framed by a tachymeter scale.

The new Certina DS-2 Chronograph Automatic is available in stainless steel with a blue dial and textile strap with pricing marked at CHF 1,980 (approximately $2,200).
