Ebel Launches Sport Classic Skeleton 42 MM
The Ebel Sport Classic made its debut in 1977. In contrast to the bold, angular designs of the 1970s, the Swiss brand, founded in 1911, opted for soft, rounded shapes when designing this model. The most striking feature was the harmonious hexagonal case with gently curved lines and a flat bezel with five visible screws. And–of course–the iconic metal bracelet with its wave-shaped links. This design philosophy was rooted in the company's maxim of "Architects of Time" and drew inspiration from sculpture. A successful combination that gave the model an exceptionally high degree of recognizability and helped it endure over the decades. Since then, the Sport Classic has been released in various versions without straying from its original charm.
The latest addition, the Sport Classic Skeleton 42mm, adds a new aesthetic twist: The limited edition of 200 pieces features a skeletonized movement based on the self-winding Sellita SW400-1 and an open-worked, black-galvanized dial that invites the viewer to delve into its intricate inner workings. Protected by an anti-reflective box sapphire crystal, the polished hour markers, the brand's "double-E" logo at 12 o'clock, the diamond-cut hour and minute hands, and the slender seconds hand appear to float in front the matte black bridges of the movement in the background.
The Sport Classic Skeleton has a case measuring 42mm in diameter and 10.25mm in height. It is made of stainless steel, combining brushed and polished surfaces, and features a black DLC coating for added refinement. The transparent sapphire crystal case back offers further captivating views into the watch's inner workings, while the famous wave-shaped bracelet, also coated with DLC, seamlessly transitions into the case.
In addition to the black version, Ebel also offers a classic stainless steel variant, also limited to just 200 pieces. Both iterations are priced at $3,950.
