Independent watchmaker Ming has never shied away from experimenting with materials, but its latest collaboration ventures into entirely new territory. The new 37.06 Royal Selangor introduces a hand-hammered pewter dial — a rarity in watchmaking — created in partnership with Royal Selangor, the renowned Malaysian manufacturer that has worked with the metal for more than 140 years.

The partnership brings Royal Selangor’s traditional metalworking expertise into an entirely new application, transforming a material more commonly associated with decorative objects into the centerpiece of a contemporary mechanical watch. Limited to 88 pieces, the watch combines traditional craftsmanship with Ming’s unmistakably modern design language.

The release also marks an important milestone for the brand. For the first time, the entire production run will be assembled in Kuala Lumpur using infrastructure developed specifically for the project, further emphasizing the watch’s Malaysian roots.

A Hand-Hammered Pewter Dial

The star of the watch is undoubtedly its hand-hammered pewter dial, crafted in Kuala Lumpur. At dial scale, the tin-based alloy reveals a unique character, with a textured surface that reflects light differently from every angle. The result is a warm, organic appearance that contrasts with the cool, fully brushed Grade 2 titanium case while ensuring that no two dials look exactly alike. Markers engraved into the sapphire crystal are filled with Super-LumiNova X1, creating Ming’s signature floating display effect, while the hands receive the same luminous treatment for strong legibility in low-light conditions.

A Lightweight Titanium Case

The 37.06 Royal Selangor is housed in Ming’s familiar 37-series case, crafted from lightweight Grade 2 titanium. Measuring 38mm in diameter and 11.05mm thick, and weighing just 35.9 grams without the strap, the case offers a comfortable fit while providing 100 meters of water resistance. A sapphire crystal caseback engraved with the Ming and Royal Selangor wordmarks reveals the movement inside.

Power comes from the Swiss-made Sellita SW300.M1 automatic caliber developed for Ming. The Sellita movement offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and features skeletonized, rhodium-plated bridges with brushed finishing over an anthracite-coated baseplate.

Limited to 88 pieces, the Ming 37.06 Royal Selangor is priced at CHF 5,000 before taxes. Each watch comes fitted with a blue-gray Jean Rousseau goatskin leather strap and is presented in a hand-hammered pewter box created by Royal Selangor. The watch will be available through Royal Selangor boutiques beginning July 30, 2026, while a limited allocation will go on sale through Ming on August 6, 2026.
