A Canvas for Color, Relief, and Light

Día de los Muertos is one of Mexico’s most colorful traditions. Each year in early November, families remember their deceased loved ones not with mourning, but with flowers, music, decorated altars, and artistic representations such as the skull, known in Spanish as the calavera. According to tradition, the dead return to their families for a short time. Death is not treated as something to be hidden away, but as part of life and an occasion to celebrate the memories of those who have passed.

Mido has drawn on this distinctive combination of remembrance, joy, and symbolism for special editions since 2020. While the first models were created exclusively for the Mexican market, more recent editions have been available internationally. The 2026 Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Alebrijes Special Edition brings together two characteristic elements of Mexican folk art: the calavera and alebrijes, fantastical creatures associated with Mexican artist Pedro Linares.

A Fantastical World After Dark

The calavera takes center stage on the gray-to-black gradient dial, surrounded by a group of alebrijes. Their imaginative forms combine different animals and seemingly unexpected elements, creating a colorful world of shapes and patterns across the dial. A playful detail appears in the large-date display at 12 o’clock: the numeral 1 is shaped like a small bone. At night, three colors of Super-LumiNova bring another dimension to the design, highlighting the indexes and selected elements of the elaborate dial.

A Case Inspired by a Television Screen

The distinctive case of the Multifort TV collection provides the setting for the artwork. Made of stainless steel, it measures 40 × 39.2mm and offers water resistance to 100 meters. Polished and satin-finished surfaces emphasize its characteristic shape, inspired by the television screens of the 1970s. The front is covered by a sapphire crystal with antireflective treatment on both sides, while a sapphire crystal caseback offers a view of the self-winding movement.
