Founded in Geneva in 2009 by designer Yvan Arpa, ArtyA has built a reputation for its unconventional designs and technically inventive movements. One of the brand’s latest debuts, the Purity Wavy HMS Mirror, continues that spirit with a grade 5 titanium case coated in transparent DLC and the world’s first one-way mirror caseback.

Limited to 99 pieces, the model will be on display at WatchTime New York 2025, where collectors and enthusiasts can experience the watch firsthand.

The Purity Wavy HMS Mirror is housed in a 40mm case made from lightweight grade 5 titanium, enhanced with a transparent DLC protective coating. Measuring 13mm thick and water resistant to 50 meters, the case was designed by Jérémie Arpa, with the look taking inspiration from ocean waves through flowing, organic lines unique to the Wavy collection. The result is a watch that works to match its technical ability to everyday comfort.

Beneath the transparent DLC, a satin finish contrasts with mirror-polished lug-to-lug contours, an especially demanding detail in titanium, elevating the look and nodding to those in the know about the difficulties of the material. The watch also notably makes use of a screw-in caseback fitted with a one-way mirror. According to the brand, the feature is a first in watchmaking, offering a reflective effect that deepens the visual impact of the movement inside.

An openworked dial brings ArtyA’s penchant for transparency and visual intrigue to the forefront. A sapphire crystal with triple anti-reflective treatment and a laser-engraved chapter ring frames the view. Brushed and diamond-polished hands mark the hours, minutes, and central seconds, while the mirrored caseback creates the illusion of the movement floating in space, adding to the “visual spectacle” the brand aims to achieve through the design.

Powering the watch is the manual-winding ArtyA Purity Stairway to Heaven HMS caliber. Beating at 4 Hz, it features twin parallel barrels providing a minimum 72-hour power reserve. The architecture highlights a “starified” escapement, suspended as if on a podium at the center of the watch. Traditional fine regulation with inertia blocks ensures stable performance and lasting chronometric precision.

In its aesthetic work, ArtyA finished the movement with microbead-frosted and hand-chamfered bridges, polished mainsprings, and fluidly redesigned barrel drums.
