Modern technological and design advancements have made the utility of timepieces increasingly expansive and dynamic. Since its founding in 1989, Luminox has leaned into one of the niche segments of the watch market geared purely for utility, focusing on creating watches used for military service.

Notably, the brand has had a longstanding partnership with the Navy SEALs, creating watches that suit their specific needs. The newest watch from Luminox follows that history, with the Navy SEAL Chronograph 3850 series “Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast” edition seeing its debut as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Navy SEALs operation force.

Sized on the wrist at 45mm, the case of the Chronograph is made of a matte black carbon compound material called Carbonox, with it featuring a very rigid construction and hard finish. Luminox favors the use of of the material for watches that are designed to be ultra-lightweight and durable for elite professionals like Navy SEALs.

Matching the case, the dial of the watch is also black with a rough texture adding to the model’s gritty aesthetic. It features three subdials and a date window at 6 o’clock. Though there are no numerical hour markers, the watch has geometric indices that utilize Luminox Light Technology, making the timepiece visible in any light conditions. The famous SEAL mantra that inspired this timepiece, “Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast,” is also inscribed in red lettering on the dial.

The new timepiece is powered by the RONDA 5030.D HH1, a quartz movement with a 43-month power reserve. It is water resistant up to 200 meters and is guaranteed to glow for up to 25 years in any light condition.
