Some watches never lose their charm, as is the case with the Frederique Constant Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture. It was originally launched in 2016 and made quite some waves back then. This was due to the fact that it was (by far) the most affordable, Swiss-made perpetual calendar with a manufacture movement. Nine years later, Frederique Constant is giving its perpetual calendar a classic makeover.

This starts with a new case, which is part of the brand's Classic collection. With a diameter of 40mm, it is more compact, channeling the flair and elegance of vintage timepieces. This is also evident from the slimmer lugs, as well as that stunning combination of a salmon-colored dial with a stainless steel case. Frederique Constant gave the dial a sunburst finish, which ensures that the light gets all the opportunity it needs to showcase all the different hues of salmon. It also offers a nice contrast to the traditional moon phase disc, which runs behind its window at six o'clock. The hour and minute hand are made from steel to match the case, but also hand-polished. This shows that Frederique Constant's dedication is not only to keep this watch as affordable as possible but also high-end.

Inside the case there ticks a new and improved in-house movement. Running at 28,800 VpH/4Hz is caliber FC-776, a proper powerhouse that offers a generous 72-hour power reserve. It can be viewed through the sapphire insert in the caseback, enticing our watch-collecting hearts not only with a beautiful movement architecture but also with decorations such as perlage, blued screws and circular Côtes de Genève. Frederique Constant matched this watch with a chestnut brown alligator strap fitted with a folding clasp. The price is, given its complexity and movement, still very competitive, at $9,995, with delivery starting this fall.
