For 2009, Perrelet introduces two new watches and a limited edition set with two timepieces in a special case. The first new model, known as the Turbine, takes Perrelet’s double rotor design to a new level. The dial-side rotor is transformed into a 12 bladed titanium turbine that covers the whole of the dial. The turbine-inspired rotor spins beneath an outer ring bearing the luminous numbers. Luminous markers on the under dial accentuate the multi-dimensional effect.

Turbine models measure 44mm in diameter and are powered by Perrelet’s P-181 double-rotor movement. Turn this timepiece over to view angled and polished black lacquered bridges through the sapphire case back. The Turbine collection is available in plain titanium, DLC-treated titanium, and 18K pink gold. Look for Turbines to reach retailers in October.

The Maestro Edition by Perrelet is a limited edition set that includes two timepieces in a very special case. The first watch is an automatic 5-minute repeater with hours, minutes, and central seconds. Pressing the push-piece located at 8 o’clock sets off the Caliber P-201’s striking mechanism. A first deep note sounds the hours. A succession of double notes, high and low, hammers each five minutes. Perrelet claims that the openwork 42mm stainless steel 316L case generates higher volume than a traditional closed case.

The second watch in this set is an alarm with day and date displays. The P-121 caliber is equipped with two barrels. The oscillating weight charges the energy for the alarm function in one rotational direction, and for the timekeeping functions in the other direction. The alarm model also measures 42mm.

The tower case measures approximately 8 x 8 inches square and 24 inches in height. It is composed of black lacquered wood with brushed aluminum fluting. The lower section incorporates two battery-powered Swisskubik winders, one above the other, mounted behind glass portholes. The upper section of the case houses an amplifier, 2 Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere speakers, and an iPod Nano 8G.

The Maestro Edition is limited to 50 sets worldwide, and they will be available in October.

Perrelet is also offering their Perpetual Calendar in 18K pink gold. The 43.5mm case houses a caliber P-251 automatic movement with perpetual calendar, moonphase, and chronograph functions. The rotor is set with a glass in a patented design that allows the owner to view the angled bridges decorated with the trademark Perrelet embroidery in the form of a “P”.

The openwork black dial features a tinted glass and luminous indexes. A disc at 3 o’clock displays the phases of the moon. The counter at 6 o’clock indicates the days, at 9 o’clock the months and leap years, while at 12 o’clock the date is displayed as well as the small seconds hand. The chronograph functions are indicated by small hands at 6 o’clock for the hours and at 9 o’clock for the minutes. The Perpetual Calendar will also be available in October.
