When Porsche Design unveiled the original Chronograph 1 in 1972, it set a benchmark in design and functionality that continues to influence the industry. The watch, designed by F. A. Porsche, the brand's founder, featured a striking matte black dial inspired by the Porsche 911’s dashboard. Its legible, reflective-free face was ahead of its time, with a minimalist, high-contrast design that allowed for quick readability. As F. A. Porsche famously stated: “When you rethink the function of an object, the form sometimes reveals itself naturally.” With the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition, Porsche Design and F.A.T. International add a fresh chapter to this legacy, blending contemporary innovation with a strong motorsport lineage.

Reviving 1990s Motorsport History

F.A.T. International, a French logistics company, had an ambitious goal in the 1990s: to win the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. In collaboration with Porsche and former race driver Joachim Dauer, F.A.T. helped bring the Porsche 962, a former Le Mans victor, back onto the track after years of dormancy. The 962 won the 1994 edition of the race.

This victory, and the subsequent revival of motorsport spirit by F.A.T. International, inspired Ferdi Porsche (nephew of F. A. Porsche) to reinvigorate the F.A.T. brand as a modern motorsport community. Since 2019, F.A.T. International has hosted exciting events, including the F.A.T. Ice Race in Zell am See and the reopening of the iconic “Mankei” hut on the Austrian Grossglockner High Alpine Road, bringing Porsche fans and motorsport enthusiasts together in unique settings.

White on Black – A Luminous Innovation

For the first time ever, the Chronograph 1 features a bright white dial fully coated with Superluminova. This coating ensures maximum brightness, offering excellent legibility both in daylight and darkness. The black markers, numbers, and hands stand out sharply against the white background, while the signature red chronograph seconds hand remains as eye-catching as ever.

At night, hidden details come to life: the silhouette of the Porsche 962 appears on the hour counter, and the "6" in the subdial at 6 o’clock, along with the “9” and “2,” form the car’s name. The F.A.T. International logo appears under the date window, and a custom English day display replaces the typical abbreviations with a bold “F.A.T.” in red—marking every weekend as a racing weekend.

Titanium Case – A Classic Porsche Design Signature

The Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition features a 40.8mm titanium case with a water-resistance of 100 meters, designed as a tribute to the Porsche 962’s legendary aerodynamic form and matte carbon fiber finish. The lightweight titanium is coated with a matte black titanium carbide coating, giving it a sleek, durable look. The crown bears the historic Porsche Design logo, while the titanium case back is engraved with the Porsche 962’s silhouette, the "F.A.T. 2025" logo, and the edition number.

The matte black titanium bracelet completes the iconic design of the 1972 Chronograph 1, with a clasp featuring the original Porsche Design logo. Additionally, the watch comes with a white textile strap, adorned with the F.A.T. Ice Race badge, designed for extreme conditions. The package also includes a F.A.T. Mankei Band, a hybrid textile and leather strap in purple—a nod to the interior details of the modern glass pavilion next to the “F.A.T.-Mankei” hut. Thanks to a quick-change system, you can easily swap the straps without any tools.

Precision Powered by the Porsche Design Caliber

At the heart of the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition is the Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.240, a COSC-certified automatic movement with a flyback function. This feature allows the wearer to stop, reset, and restart the chronograph in one continuous motion, perfect for measuring precise lap times. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 48 hours.
