Tissot PRC 100 Solar: A Spring Awakening with Innovative Solar Technology

With the PRC 100 Solar, Tissot, the renowned Swiss watchmaker from Le Locle, introduces a new and impressive innovation that redefines the boundaries of classic solar watches. The PRC 100 Solar is not only highly precise but also environmentally friendly, requiring only light to function—whether from the sun or artificial light. Tissot relies on its groundbreaking solar cell technology, which was first introduced in 2014 with the T-Touch Solar, and is now available in a sleek new design.

The PRC 100 Solar utilizes advanced solar cell technology integrated beneath the sapphire crystal, efficiently capturing light without compromising the watch's clear, uninterrupted design. Microscopic solar cells with a honeycomb structure optimize light absorption, ensuring that the watch runs reliably even with minimal sunlight exposure. This innovative technology only requires ten minutes of daylight to power the watch for a full 24 hours—a perfect example of maximum efficiency with minimal energy consumption.

Thanks to the Swiss-made F06.615 quartz movement, the PRC 100 Solar remains continuously operational even in low-light conditions. Excess energy is stored in a rechargeable battery, which, when fully charged, can keep the watch running for up to 14 months without a light source. If the battery is running low, the second hand will start moving in four-second intervals, indicating that the watch needs light. Once the system is recharged—whether from the sun or artificial light—the second hand returns to its normal rhythm, offering a subtle and clever reminder of just how efficiently this watch works.

The PCR 100 Solar features a 39 mm stainless steel case with a stylish twelve-sided bezel and is water-resistant to 100 meters. Pricing starts at $450. Initially, there are five models with the 39 mm case, with four additional models featuring a 34 mm case set to launch later this year.
