As the name suggests, Seiko has dedicated the 2016-established Presage Craftsmanship collection to the art of fine handiwork. The latest addition, the ref. SPB495, expands upon this notion, working to captivate with its flawless white enamel dial and understated charm— reminiscent of pocket watches from a bygone era. It is paired with an automatic movement with an impressive power reserve.

The SPB495 highlights enamel, a material highly regarded for both its durability and aesthetic appeal and produced in a specialized and time-consuming process process. In this model, the dial shines in matte white, offering a crisp backdrop for the refined Roman numerals and railroad minute track, evoking the design of Seiko's first timepiece, a pocket watch from 1895. However, instead of a small seconds hand, this model features a 24-hour display at 6 o'clock. The second's hand, like the hour and minute hands, operates from the center. All hands are beautifully blued, creating an elegant contrast against the white background.

While the aesthetic harks back to earlier times, the movement and case are firmly rooted in modern technology. At the heart of the watch lies the automatic Caliber 6RSH, offering 72 hours of power reserve and a hacking seconds function for precise time setting. The movement is displayed through an exhibition case back, while the case itself is made of hard-coated stainless steel, with a diameter of 40.2mm, a height of 12.5mm, and a water resistance up to 100 meters.

The SPB495 is completed with a black leather strap, featuring a folding clasp and security push button, and is priced at $1,400.
