Longines starts on a high note into 2025: Right at the start of the new year, the Swiss tradition brand announced the Ultra-Chron Carbon. The use of this lightweight yet sturdy and resilient material that it is in its name is a first for Longines. Inspired by aerospace and lightweight construction technologies, carbon fiber is known for its strength-to-weight ratio and its ability to withstand extreme conditions. Therefore, the Ultra-Chron Carbon in its signature cushion shaped case, measuring 43 x 14mm and water-resistant to an impressive 300 meters, weighs just 80 grams, including the textile strap.

Behind the titanium case back lies the Longines-exclusive L836.6 high-frequency movement. This self-winding caliber offers a 50-hour power reserve and is inspired by the movement of the first Ultra-Chron Diver of 1968, the first diver's watch ever to feature a high-frequency caliber. True to its heritage, the L836.6 beats at 5 Hertz (36,000 vibrations per hour), ensuring exceptional accuracy.

Longines has taken the Ultra-Chron's performance a step further by incorporating a silicon balance spring into the modern version introduced in 2022. This innovative feature offers resistance to temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields, significantly improving the watch’s reliability. The movement has been certified as a chronometer by Timelab, the independent Swiss laboratory that performs rigorous testing beyond the standard chronometer regulations. The timepiece undergoes stringent tests on water resistance, magnetic resistance, power reserve, and wearability at various temperatures (8°C, 23°C, and 38°C), ensuring that the Ultra-Chron Carbon meets the highest standards of accuracy and performance.

The anthracite-colored dial features a minimalist design without date indication, focusing on clarity and readability. Protected by a sapphire crystal with a multi-layer anti-reflective coating, the watch face is furnished with twelve applied hour markers. Like the hour and minute hands they are coated with Superluminova for legibility in low light conditions. The dial is framed by a titanium bezel with a black aluminum insert.

The Ultra-Chron Carbon retails for $4,900.
