Seiko is a highly versatile brand, offering timepieces of all types and colors, with a century of technical expertise in the field of watchmaking and a strong reputation across a variety of sports and tool watches. The Presage Collection, launched in 2016, represents the more elegant and artistic side of the watch giant, with stunning dials embracing Japanese culture, design, and art.

Now, Seiko adds five new timepieces as part of the Classic Series to the line up, featuring two different dial layouts and functions. Three of the models are standard three-hand watches with date windows at 3 o’clock, while the other two have an open-heart aperture and an additional 24-hour sub dial at the 6 o’clock position.

All three newcomers are distinguished by beautifully textured dials that recall Japanese textiles and fabrics. Slightly curved, they express a sense of depth. The round shape is echoed by the hour markers and hands which are curved on the top and the dual-curved sapphire crystal that covers them.

While the three-hand references stand out with their textured surface, the open-heart executions, SPB471 and SPB469, are finished with a radial pattern inspired by raw silk yarn.

No matter what surface, each timepiece in the collection radiates a cool glow, reflecting the traditional Japanese colors it embodies and offering a fascinating play of light. These colors include:

  • Shiroiro: This is the shade of unprocessed natural fabric, which is used by two dials in the collection.
  • Sensaicha: A muted greenish-brown hue that was popular during the Edo Period.
  • Araigaki: A color reminiscent of washed and bleached persimmon.
  • Sumiiro: A grayish-black tone traditionally found in the robes of monks.

The 40.2mm stainless-steel cases which are water-resistant to 100 meters and coated with Seiko's super hard coating are also constructed with soft, curved surfaces, completing the harmonious look and feel of the overall design. They are equipped with an exhibition case back and attached to a new multi-row bracelet with design inspiration from the 1970s that complements the case design. The bracelet’s links have an ergonomic shape, with a curved top surface and a reduction of contact points around the wrist for a comfortable fit and enhanced aesthetics.

The three-hand references (SPB463, SPB465, and SPB467) are powered by the self-winding caliber 6R55 with 72 hours of power reserve, which is protected against magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m and offers a precision rate of +25 to -15 seconds per day. The open-heart executions in the SPB471 and SPB469 are driven by the self-winding caliber 6R5J with the same features. The Seiko Presage Classic Series will be available from June 2024, with a price tag of $950 and $1,125, respectively.
