Vacheron Constantin Marks 30 Years of the Overseas with an Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar

Vacheron Constantin marks the 30th anniversary of its Overseas collection with a new interpretation of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. Limited to 200 pieces, the slim watch combines an 18-karat white-gold case with a new, lighter shade of azure blue and the manufacture’s ultra-thin Caliber 1120 QP/1.

Since its introduction in 1996, the Overseas has evolved from a luxurios yet sporty travel watch into a collection encompassing a broad range of complications. The current generation, introduced in 2016, refined its characteristic Maltese-cross-inspired bezel and integrated bracelet while adding a tool-free interchangeable strap system. The anniversary model brings together several of these defining elements in a particularly slim format. Its 41.5mm white-gold case measures just 8.1mm in height, giving the perpetual calendar a notably restrained profile.

A New Shade of Azure

The lacquered dial introduces a new interpretation of Vacheron Constantin’s azure blue. Lighter and less saturated than the established blue used across the collection, the refined color changes subtly with the light and contrasts with the understated sheen of the white-gold case. The moon-phase display, which complements the three sub dials for the weekday, month, including the leap years, and date, uses a matching disc. Applied 18-karat white-gold hour markers and hands provide contrast and are accented with blue Superluminova for low-light legibility.

An Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar

At the heart of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is the self-winding Caliber 1120 QP/1. Measuring just 4.05mm thick, its calendar mechanism automatically accounts for months of different lengths and leap years and requires no correction until 2100, when the Gregorian calendar skips a leap year. The manufacture movement comprises 276 components and operates at 19,800 vibrations per hour, or 2.75 Hz. Its power reserve is approximately 40 hours.

Through the sapphire crystal case back, the Caliber 1120 QP/1 reveals the level of finishing associated with Vacheron Constantin’s Haute Horlogerie movements. The bridges are adorned with Côtes de Genève and hand-finished bevels, while the mainplate features perlage. The calendar components receive either vertical or circular satin-brushed finishes. The movement is certified with the Geneva Seal. The oldest quality seal in the world of watches attests to the superior quality of its habillage and finishing. The 22-karat gold rotor is engraved with a compass rose, a fitting reference to the Overseas collection’s spirit of travel. 

Three Ways to Wear It

In keeping with the current Overseas concept, the anniversary edition is delivered with three interchangeable straps. The integrated 18-karat white-gold bracelet combines polished and satin-finished links shaped as half Maltese crosses and features a triple-blade folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system. A white rubber strap and a denim-blue rubber strap provide sportier alternatives. Both can be exchanged without tools and are fitted with interchangeable 18-karat white-gold pin buckles. Pricing is marked at $132,000.
