Live Photos: New Omega Watches From Baselworld 2014 Come to NYC
Like many others who attend the Baselworld watch fair, we at WatchTime look forward to seeing the new Omega watches that are unveiled there. This year, we came by at a particularly busy moment at Omega's always-bustling booth and were only able to see the watches behind the glass walls of their vitrines. So, when Omega invited me to view the 2014 collection at a special press event in New York City, I jumped at the opportunity to get up close and personal with these Omega timepieces, including the chance to try them on and snap some original photos. Here is what I came away with from my one-on-one appointment with Omega.
One of the most buzzed-about new Omegas at this year's Baselworld was the Omega Seamaster 300, based on the original Omega Seamaster 300 divers' watch from 1957. Like many other of this year's new Omega watches, the Seamaster 300 contains the new "Master Co-Axial" movement with the industry-leading antimagnetic protection up to 15,000 Gauss, a technical feature first used in Omega's Seamaster >15,000 Gauss, which made its much-touted debut in 2013. This version of the Seamaster 300 use two proprietary Omega materials: Sedna gold (an alloy of gold, copper and palladium that makes for a distinctive reddish hue) in the bracelet and Ceragold (a blend of ceramic and gold) in the rotating bezel. The watch retails for $32,400.

Another standout from Omega's Seamaster collection of dive watches that I got to check out is the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GMT. This version has a dark blue color scheme with strategically placed orange highlights, such as the tip of the center-mounted GMT hand; it's also mounted on a very comfortable, sporty rubber strap and has a lightweight but tough titanium case. This version of the Planet Ocean costs $9,500.

Omega also outfitted its Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch collection with its new Master Co-Axial movements this year. Below you'll find a host of new Aqua Terra watches launched at this year's Baselworld, in a number of materials, dial colors, and combinations, including some two-tone steel-gold looks. Omega has made no secret of its plans to outfit its entire collection with the anti-magnetic Master Co-Axial movements in the near future.

Shifting from sporty to elegant-dressy, we have the Omega De Ville Trésor, a new watch I reported on from Baselworld 2014. The Trésor (French for "Treasure") is based on a vintage Omega watch from 1949 and features yet another new Master Co-Axial movement, this one with manual-winding, Caliber 8511. The watch features a simple three-hand display, a subtle Clou de Paris pattern on the white dial (visible in the photo below) and a thin, retro-styled case in yellow, white, or Sedna gold. Prices range from $13,800 to $15,000.

Another watch we covered extensively from Baselworld 2014 (click here for the story), the Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Edition, finally made its way into my hands this week. The latest limited edition of the renowned Omega "Moonwatch" combines rose gold, Sedna gold, brushed titanium, matte-black ceramic (for the tachymeter bezel) and a distinctively dark gray PVD dial to achieve the look of the lunar landing model that made its historic touchdown on the moon in 1969. The watch also features a rarity for an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch: a NATO-style fabric strap. The Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Edition is limited to (you guessed it) 1,969 pieces and retails for $7,700.

I was also able to see one new Omega watch that I did not see at Baselworld, the latest in the brand's ongoing series of special editions for the Olympic Games Omega is the official timekeeper of the Olympics). Omega introduced the new Speedmaster Mark II, based on the 1969 original, just this year, and it has apparently proven popular enough for Omega to award to this model its latest commemorative Olympics timepiece. The Omega Speedmaster Mark II "Rio 2016," is a 2,016-piece limited edition commemorating the upcoming games in Rio de Janeiro. It has the distinctive barrel-shaped case and tricompax chronograph dial of the existing Mark II, but adds a special "Olympics" touch to the dial: the three chronograph subdials are bordered by rings made of bronze, silver, and gold, representing the medals awarded to Olympics champions. The watch is not yet available at retail, but is expected to be priced at $6,300.
