Meet the NH TYPE 6A, Naoya Hida’s Vision of Perpetual Sophistication
Founded in 2018 in Tokyo by Naoya Hida— a former representative for F.P. Journe and Ralph Lauren's watch and jewelry lines in Japan— the eponymous brand has gained acclaim for its uncompromising vision of independent watchmaking: crafting elegant, classical wristwatches inspired by the 1930s and 1940s in extremely limited numbers with an almost obsessive attention to detail.
Now, with the upcoming release of the NH TYPE 6A, one of eleven new introductions, Naoya Hida & Co. enters new horological territory. Scheduled for release between 2025 and 2026 in a production of just ten pieces, the NH TYPE 6A is not only the brand’s first perpetual calendar, but also its most technically ambitious creation to date.
At the heart of the NH TYPE 6A is the Cal. 3025PC, a new hand-wound movement based on a Valjoux ébauche developed in collaboration with Habring² and Dubois-Dépraz— two names well-respected among the independent watchmaking elite. Measuring 30mm in diameter and just 7.3mm thick, the 3025PC offers a 45-hour power reserve and beats at a 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). Its perpetual calendar complication displays the date, day of the week, month, and leap year, requiring no correction until the year 2100. Naoya Hida has also designed a bespoke "click-and-click spring," ensuring a tactilely satisfying winding experience.
Design-wise, the NH TYPE 6A continues Naoya Hida’s dedication to the refined aesthetics of 1930s and 1940s Calatrava-style dress watches. The 37mm x 11.5mm stainless steel case, crafted from ultra-durable SUS904L steel, is finished to perfection after being precision-machined to minute tolerances. The dial is crafted from sterling silver, a high-quality silver alloy prized for its resistance to tarnishing and its soft, luminous sheen. It makes for a beautiful background of the engraved elements that are the result of an ultra-precision micro-milling machine and filled with cashew lacquer, a traditional synthetic Urushi offering both durability and deep visual character. Every Roman numeral is painstakingly hand-engraved by master engraver Keisuke Kano, with added depth and nuance that no industrial process can replicate.
The hands are a story in themselves: the hour and minute hands, made from 18K yellow gold, are machined, polished, and manually bent to precisely follow the curvature of the dial’s minute scale. The calendar hands are crafted from blued steel, heat-treated to a rich cobalt hue.
Only ten pieces of the NH TYPE 6A will be produced—emphasizing the brand’s unwavering commitment to low-volume, high-integrity watchmaking. The same attention to detail extends to the strap, which is entirely hand-stitched for exceptional craftsmanship. The upper surface features ILCEA Radica leather, renowned for its rich character and depth, while the reverse side is lined with supple Perlinger Noblesse calf leather for unmatched comfort against the skin.
