H. Moser & Cie Debuts New Streamliner Centre Seconds In "Smoked Salmon" Dial

Just released by H. Moser & Cie is the latest variant of their popular Streamliner Centre Seconds integrated bracelet sport watch since its 2020 debut in Matrix Green, which affectionately earned the nickname “green dragon." This new version comes in a “Smoked Salmon” dial color, which is a bit different from the usual Salmon colored dials you are used to seeing (this is Moser, after all). They've always been one of the wittiest brands around and I couldn't help but chuckle at the "Smoked" moniker for their signature fumé dial done in this new color. While not a limited edition, the new Smoked Salmon Streamliner will only be produced for 2023 after which it will be retired.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Streamliner Centre Seconds, it is Moser’s entry-level integrated bracelet sport watch model which also comes in more complicated Flyback Chronograph, Perpetual Calendar, and Tourbillon models. Housed in a 40mm wide and 12.1mm thick (with crystal) stainless steel case that has 120 m of water resistance, the Streamliner has an interesting and retro-feeling cushion-shaped case. However, the bracelet is what made the Streamliner a breakthrough hit. To my eyes it has always resembled architectural fish-scales that taper down perfectly on the wrist. Frankly, it is one of the most comfortable and well-built bracelets out there.

The Streamliner Centre Seconds is outfitted with the in-house HMC 200 automatic movement. It features a Straumann hairspring and operates at 3 Hz with a 72-hour power reserve. It has a solid gold rotor and the classic Moser Hallmark as well as finished with Moser Stripes (which are double-crested Geneva Stripes, essentially.)

Now, on to the dial. Done in a fumé that plays between lighter and darker hues, this is no typical salmon dial. Why? Well, Moser CEO Edouard Meylan anticipated this question, saying, Our inspiration does not come from the traditional Atlantic salmon, or "Salmo salar" to give it its Latin name, but from its very rare cousin, the “Oncorhynchus kisutch". Allowed to mature in total freedom and massaged each day by specialists using an oil infused with aromatic herbs picked from the slopes of the Himalayas, this species only eats crustaceans that have been pre-digested by pink flamingos. Each individual fish is smoked using a secret recipe made using Scottish whisky. This is what gives the flesh this exceptional colour, and is the inspiration behind our new dial."
Ok, Mr. Meylan’s intentionally hilarious “description” was too funny not to fully quote but indeed, this “Coho” or “silver” Salmon is unlike the typical salmon one sees. On the dial, this supposedly translates into a beige or even light chocolate hue depending on the angle and lighting. I would have to see the piece in person to give my own impressions but Moser’s photos typically do their watches justice. Again, the H. Moser & Cie Streamliner Centre Seconds “Smoked Salmon” watch will only be produced during 2023 after which it will be discontinued. Price is unchanged from the previous iteration at $21,900.
