This month, Grand Seiko unveils a second Hi-Beat mechanical timepiece with a new "Icefall" patterned dial, joining the Heritage Collection. Inspired by the frozen waterfalls of Iwate Prefectur, the ref. SBGH349's luminescent dial mimics the iridescent textures of ice formations, specifically the Nanataki waterfall near Mt. Iwate, the home of Grand Seiko's mechanical watchmaking.

While the SBGH347 was introduced in a 37mm Ever-Brilliant Steel case in the fall of 2024, the new model features a 40 x 13mm case crafted from Grand Seiko's proprietary High-Intensity Titanium, a lightweight and highly durable material. The design of the case, which recalls the brand’s first 9S series timepiece from 1998, combines the sharp, highly polished Zaratsu bevels with a brushed hairline finish for the sought-after aesthetic of the Japanese luxury brand. As is typical, it is water-resistant to 100 meters and offers magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m.

The SBGH349 is powered by the high-frequency 9S85 caliber, which operates with 36,000 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement with a 55-hour power reserve and an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per can be admired through a sapphire case back.

The SBGH349 will be available from January 2025 at Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide and retail for $7,400.
