With the Pioneer Silva, Hanhart revives a model from the company archives which was driven by the historic Kal 36/39. Silva is the Latin name for woods and refers to the brand's Homeland in the Black Forest.

While the original was a gold watch with a salmon-hued dial and blued hands (below), the newcomer is presented in a stainless-steel case with a black or white dial.

The layout and impression, however, reflect the clean and pared-down looks of the piece which is on display at the German brand's museum in the small Black Forest town of Gütenbach. Bold Arabic numerals and hour dots alternate and are complemented by classic baton hands. In contrast to the first Silva, the seconds hand is placed in the center.

The overall dressy appearance is highlighted by the modest diameter of 38.5mm and svelte height of 10mm. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters.

At the heart of the Pioneer Silva ticks the tried-and-trusted Sellita SW200 caliber which offers a power reserve of 38 hours. This self-winding movement is equipped with a blackened and personalized rotor and can be admired through the exhibition case back.

The Pioneer Silva is worn on a black calfskin strap or a stainless steel Milanaise bracelet and retails for approximately $970 when converted to USD.
