Grand Seiko Introduces the SLGW007 “Moonlit Birch”

Grand Seiko expands its line of refined Evolution 9 dress watches with the new SLGW007 “Moonlit Birch.” The model captivates with a dial that evokes the quiet beauty of white birch trees bathed in moonlight.

In 2024, Grand Seiko presented the hand-wound caliber 9SA4, the brand’s first high-beat manual-wind movement in over half a century. To honor this achievement, the watchmakers created a slim dress watch within the Evolution 9 Collection that combines understated elegance with mechanical sophistication.

A Nocturnal Inspiration

The latest reference brings a new interpretation of this concept. Its textured dial, rendered in a deep navy blue, reflects the nighttime scenery of the white birch forests of Iwate Prefecture, an enduring source of inspiration for Grand Seiko’s designers and a signature motif of the brand.

Stainless Steel Debut

For the first time, this Evolution 9 dress watch design is crafted in stainless steel. Measuring 38.6mm in diameter and just 9.95mm in height, the case offers a discreet presence that slips easily beneath a shirt cuff. A slimmer bezel and finely sculpted indexes underscore the clean geometry of the Evolution 9 style, while a calf leather strap in matching tones completes the aesthetic.

The 9SA4 Hi-Beat Heart

At its core is the caliber 9SA4, developed at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. This high-beat movement combines state-of-the-art technology with the brand’s celebrated craftsmanship. It features twin barrels, a proprietary Dual Impulse Escapement, a free-sprung balance, and Grand Seiko’s own hairspring, delivering a precision rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day and a power reserve of 80 hours. A charming detail lies in the ratchet mechanism, designed in the shape of a wagtail bird, whose beak-like motions can be admired through the sapphire caseback when the watch is wound. As with all Grand Seiko movements, it offers magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m.
