G-Shock has recently announced an update to its high-end MTG-B1000 division that adds a carbon bezel to the Bluetooth-enabled watch. The new MTG-B1000XBD and B1000XB builds on the dual-construction identity of combining resin and metal that the MT-G line has made its name on (“MT” stands for Metal Twisted, after all). Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the MT-G family has grown in importance in recent years as the brand continues to shift further upmarket. The carbon fiber bezel helps in that regard by further enhancing the collection’s physical offering while remaining an accessible purchase overall.

With the MTG-B1000XBD and B1000XB, the bezel is three-dimensionally molded from two layers of sheets made from carbon fiber and colored glass fiber-reinforced plastic, which are combined with resin. The MTG-B1000XBD incorporates red accent layers and the MTG-B1000XB incorporates white accent layers. These colored layers create a contrast with the black carbon fiber layers when viewing the bezel from the side, while the distinctive carbon fiber weave gives the bezel face an attractive design accent. This use of materials and construction gives a varying appearance to the bezel depending upon the angle of view.

The red-accented MTG-B1000XBD comes with a layered composite bracelet made with durable fine resin parts, while the blue-accented MTG-B1000XB comes with a soft urethane strap for enhanced wearability. The band attaches to the case using a combination of fine resin and metal parts for optimum strength.

While the presence of Bluetooth connectivity is a big deal, it isn’t the only noteworthy aspect found in the MT-G series; in fact, the MTG-B1000 is one of the most complicated models currently offered by the brand. In addition to a time, date, and a smartphone connection that makes understanding the various benefits of an MT-G watch easier than ever before, the watch offers: accuracy enhanced by atomic timekeeping, a second time zone display, daily alarm, LED light, Neo-Brite application on hour markers, power reserve, stopwatch, countdown timer, 24-hour dial, DST display, water resistance up to 200 meters, durability backed by patented Triple G Resist construction, and a phone finder.
