Perpetual calendars are the pinnacle of calendar watches. Their mechanical "program," designed to last for decades and beyond, is able to manage the different lengths of the months (including February) even in leap years, as will be the case in 2024. Behind this precision is a complex mechanism of gears, ratchets, levers and springs that accurately switches all displays up to the year 2100. The latest example of this haute horlogerie complication is Carl F. Bucherer's Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar, presented in a pink gold case with four dial color ways available. While the black, taupe, and green executions are unlimited editions, the one with a rose hue is limited to eight pieces.

All share the same unmistakable dial design with the three sub-dials for the weekday, months including leap year and ate arranged in the upper half of the dial. They blend in beautifully with the signature wedge-style facetted hour markers of the Manero collection and are presented on a sunray brushed center ring.

In addition to the perpetual calendar function, the four references feature a hemispheric moon-phase indication crafted from pink gold and presented on a pane of aventurine which evokes the impression of a starry night sky.

Measuring 41.6mm wide and 11.73mm thick, the Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar is driven by the genuine movement CFB A2055 with the eponymous in-house developed peripherally mounted automatic winding system. Its bidirectional oscillating weight is mounted on three frictionless ceramic ball-bearings which ensures an unobstructed view of the finely finished movement. The CFB A2055 boast a power reserve of 55 hours and is chronometer-certified by the COSC.

The Carl F. Bucherer perpetual quartet is attached to color-coordinated leather straps and retails for approximately $45,000 when converted to USD.
