70s Classic Meets Neon Streetwear in the Seiko 5 Sports HUF Green

When retro design meets West Coast street culture, things tend to get interesting. With the Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09, Seiko revives its cool Time Sonar concept from the 1970s, this time in a bold, luminous “HUF Green.” The edition is limited to 7,000 pieces.

The SRPM09 marks the second joint project between Seiko and HUF. While the 2024 Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPL33 leaned into a 1960s aesthetic, this new release travels a decade forward. It draws inspiration from the Time Sonar models of the 1970s, known for their semi-transparent dials, a daring design feature at the time. Here, that signature element returns in striking fashion. The translucent dial glows in vivid green, allowing a view of the underlying day and date discs. The result is a layered, almost technical look that feels a little nostalgic, yet modern at the same time. The SRPM09 remains true to the five core characteristics that gave the Seiko 5 Sports line its name at launch in the 1960s: an automatic movement, a day-date display, water resistance, a recessed crown at 4 o’clock, and a durable case and bracelet built for everyday wear. Orange accents on the seconds hand and on the triangular marker below 12 o’clock add energetic contrast to the green dial. Seiko’s proprietary LumiBrite coating on the hour and minute hands ensures legibility in low-light conditions.

The steel case measures 39.4mm in diameter and 11.6mm in height and is water-resistant to 100 meters. Alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces emphasize the classic silhouette, while the three-row bracelet with folding clasp underscores its sporty character. As with the previous collaboration, a green-tinted mineral crystal case back offers a glimpse of the movement inside. Powering the watch is Seiko’s tried-and-tested automatic caliber 4R36, equipped with hacking seconds for precise time-setting and a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Limited to 7,000 pieces, the Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 is positioned at an accessible $400.
