Highlights from WatchTime’s 20th Anniversary September-October Issue, On Sale Now

As of this morning, the latest print edition of WatchTime magazine (September-October, 2019) will have arrived on newsstands across the United States. Our print subscribers should have received their issue sometime within the past week or two, and our digital subscribers will have access to the magazine starting today. As you may have noticed in the upper right corner of the new magazine, this is a very special issue, because 20 years ago, WatchTime published its first edition in September/October of 1999.

With that in mind, we would like to express a sincere thank you to the millions of people that have read WatchTime over the past two decades. What began with a simple print magazine that came out six times a year has grown to become a multi-channel content and event platform with a global network of partner publications. The 2000s have not only seen drastic shifts in the watch industry, but also in how people consume media, and today, we’re proud to offer our award-winning journalism in a variety of ways, including through our flagship print product which still shows up in your mailbox six times a year, our website which reaches millions of people per year, and through our various social media pages that boast some of the largest follower counts in all of watch media.

To celebrate our anniversary, we’ve prepared a special anniversary section that breaks down everything that has made the past 20 years so significant for WatchTime, as well as for the rest of the watchmaking world.

  • Roger Ruegger talks with over 25 members of the watch industry — ranging from brand executives, independent watchmakers, retail representatives, and longtime WatchTime readers — to get their take on WatchTime’s position in the industry at large. Highlights include the legendary Jean-Claude Biver, Omega President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann, Romain Gauthier, and former WatchTime Editor-in-Chief Joe Thompson.
  • Mark Bernardo goes over two decades of “Quotable Notables,” by spotlighting the various celebrities and people of note that have appeared in the pages of WatchTime. Highlights include Jay-Z, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Martin Sheen, George Foreman, Carmelo Anthony, Peter Fonda, Eric Ripert, and Caitlyn Jenner. Trust us, you won’t want to miss what Foreman had to say about his collection of Bulova Accutrons.
  • Finally, Logan R. Baker compiles the 20 most important stories of the past 20 years. If something significant happened in the watch industry, WatchTime was there to cover it.

While we’re happy to bring you our special anniversary coverage, we have many more articles in store for you.

  • After exiting Baselworld for the final time last year, no one was sure what to expect when it came to the Swatch Group’s 2019 novelties. In May, however, the Swiss conglomerate hosted the inaugural Time to Move summit that showcased the latest releases from Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Harry Winston, Jaquet Droz, and Omega. WatchTime was one of the select few American publications invited to attend and we’re bringing you the highlights in this issue, including details on our cover model, the Blancpain Air Command.
  • Mark Bernardo takes a look at the latest editions of the TAG Heuer Monaco, a timepiece that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, in Racing Through the Decades.
  • In a Swiss-Italian Family Affair, Roger Ruegger examines the history of dive-watch specialist Squale, a brand that celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2019.
  • G-Shock has positioned itself further upmarket in recent years. Logan R. Baker breaks this transition down in All Systems Go through the lens of the growing MT-G family.
  • Maria-Bettina Eich examines the role of sustainability in the watch industry — and which brands are leading the pack in How Green is My Watch?
  • John Reardon, Founder, Collectability LLC and Senior International Consultant, Christie’s Watches, pens a column examing how the watch auction industry has evolved over the past 20 years.
  • In Tools for the Depth, Jens Koch examines the current range of Rolex dive watches.
  • In-depth reviews covering the Patek Philippe Pilot Travel Time, the Grand Seiko SBGA229 Diver, the no-date version of the Omega Seamaster 300M, the Tissot Heritage 1973 chronograph, and the Sinn Arktis 206 II.
  • Additionally, we have an overview of some of the top travel-time watches released in 2019; an interview with the fifth-generation CEO of Mühle Glashütte, Thilo Mühle; coverage of the most important timepieces released at CoutureTime, the annual Las Vegas trade show; and an inside look at how Timex is bringing some aspects of its watch production back to America.
