WatchTime Los Angeles 2019: Introducing the Brands, Part 1

As we previously announcedWatchTime is bringing the WatchTime New York event concept to the West Coast on May 3 – 4, 2019. We’ll be taking over the Hudson Loft space in Downtown Los Angeles — just minutes from Staples Center — for two days to bring you the best in luxury timepieces. For those who have attended the New York show before, you can expect a similar experience, with brands of all sizes and price points taking part; an abundance of panel discussions featuring industry VIPs, brand executives, and high-caliber collectors; wine and whiskey tastings; and plenty of opportunities to spend some quality time with your fellow enthusiasts. We’ll be collaborating with our longtime event partner Watch Anish once again, and will be working with the renowned California retailer Bhindi Jewelers for the first time.

Today, we’re happy to announce the first six of the 30+ brands we have confirmed for the show.

Scroll down to learn a little bit more about these six brands and stay tuned for the next set of brand announcements to be revealed next week.

You can buy your tickets here and we hope to see you there!

A. Lange & Söhne

Since it was resurrected in the early 1990s,  A. Lange & Söhne has evolved to become one of the most prestigious names in contemporary watchmaking. This year, the Glashütte-based firm is celebrating 25 years of the original  Lange 1 timepiece with 10 distinctive limited edition versions of the emblematic watch. The most recently announced model, the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary,” came out earlier this week and there will be a new edition released every month until the official Silver Jubilee celebration in Glashütte on October 24, 2019.

Bell & Ross

Few watch manufacturers can claim as much direct avionic influence across their entire portfolio as Bell & Ross. In fact, the brand’s square-shaped watch designs that are meant to evoke flight instruments on an airplane’s dashboard are recognized the world over. It’s because of this consistent and identifiable (not to mention attractive) design language, as well as a commitment to reasonable pricing, that has made Bell & Ross one of the watch industry’s greatest success stories of the past 30 years. Most recently, the brand unveiled the BR03-92 Bi-Compass, its first novelty of 2019.

De Bethune

De Bethune is a watch brand that enthusiasts and collectors of any caliber can appreciate. Like many independent marques, what the brand lacks in production capacity it more than makes up for in horological capability. Since it was founded in 2003, the brand has released 26 in-house-designed and -produced calibers, a torrid pace of innovation rarely seen in the Swiss industry. Recently, the brand has been on a roll with last year’s DB25 Starry Varius winning the Chronometry prize at the 2018 GPHG awards and the recent announcement of the DB28 Kind of Gold USA Limited Edition.

Grand Seiko

For years, Grand Seiko was the best-kept secret in watch collecting. The Japanese brand was renowned for its superlative quality and sensible pricing, helping it win over enthusiasts around the world. With the 2017 announcement that Grand Seiko was separating itself from its Seiko parent company combined with a heightened focus on the American market (highlighted by these U.S.-exclusive limited editions), the luxury brand is primed and ready to become an even more dominant presence in the minds of collectors everywhere. Earlier this month, Grand Seiko launched four new watches in its Elegance Collection that feature the brand’s first new manual-winding caliber in eight years. Click here to check them out.

Greubel Forsey

Since Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey teamed up in 2004 to create the brand that bears their surnames, Greubel Forsey has developed into one of the powerhouses of the independent world, with its extremely limited timepieces commanding huge sums and the founding twosome garnering massive amounts of attention for pioneering new horological techniques. Some of their more important timepieces include the Double Tourbillon 30°, the Quadruple Tourbillon, Tourbillon 24 Secondes, Balancier Spiral Binôme, Différentiel d’Egalité, Double Balancier, and the recently announced Balencier Contemporain, the firm’s smallest timepiece yet.

Kari Voutilainen

Just over a dozen years ago, Kari Voutilainen was a horological ghostwriter, working anonymously for various high-end watch brands. Today, Voutilainen is one of the most well-known names on the independent watchmaking scene, specializing in small-series and one-off watches. He is admired by collectors for his versatility (he has made tourbillons, repeaters, chronographs, GMT watches, watches with detent escapements, and more), for the quality of his finishing, and for his ability and willingness to custom-make watches for individual collectors.
