Showing at WatchTime New York 2019: Grand Seiko U.S. Exclusive “Four Seasons” Editions

America’s luxury watch extravaganza, WatchTime New York, is returning for its fifth consecutive year at midtown Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 25-26. This year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with 37 participating watch brands displaying their latest and greatest timepieces. Among these brands is Japan’s haute horlogerie king, Grand Seiko, which will showcase a quartet of U.S.-exclusive models, each representing in its distinctive design one of the four seasons.

Each of the four new models features the classic 62GS case, used on the first self-winding Grand Seiko model, measuring 40 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 100 meters. The Spring and Winter models use brushed titanium for their cases and bracelets, while the Summer and Fall models use stainless steel with Seiko’s Zaratsu polished finish. Spring and Winter are equipped with 9R65 Spring Drive movements, while Summer and Fall contain Seiko’s automatic Hi-Beat 9S85 caliber; all are visible behind clear casebacks emblazoned with the Grand Seiko lion emblem in gold metallization.

Each watch’s face symbolizes its season. The Spring has a pale pink hue, reminiscent of blossoming flowers, with a subtle texture; Grand Seiko says the shade “epitomizes the graceful Sakura season as blossoms waltz on water, and represents “the pure sky and renewal of nature.” The dial on the Winter watch features the same texture with a titanium gray color that echoes the case’s finish and calls to mind snowy winter skies (or, in Grand Seiko’s words, “illustrates the pure and clean landscape of ‘Miyuki’ deep snow”). The Summer model is a lush green punctuated by golden hands and indices, representing sunlight and greenery and, as per Grand Seiko, “embod[ying] the energy and vitality of life, as flora fluorishes;” and the Fall dial is a midnight blue, with silvery hands and indices, which “exemplifies the deep and melancholic expressions of ‘Tsukiyo – The Moonlight Night,'” and brings to mind rainy autumn nights in Grand Seiko’s native Japan.

All of the “Four Seasons” Grand Seiko models will be priced at $6,300 and available, at least for the time being, exclusively at Grand Seiko boutiques and retailers in the U.S. However, you can also view them up close, and try them on, at WatchTime New York this coming autumn.
