WatchTime New York, America’s luxury watch show, returns to the Big Apple in October! As we countdown to the big event, taking place at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 26-27, we’ll be previewing many of the new timepieces that guests will discover there. First up is the new blue version of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver.
Following up the release of the round-cased Hydromax in 1997, and the tonneau-cased BR-02 in 2007, Bell & Ross launched the first BR 03-92, the first dive watch in the square case shape for which it has become renowned, in 2017. the new BR 03-92 Diver. This year, the model expands into an entire collection, adding the Br 03-92 Diver Blue, with a satin-polished steel case, blue dial, blue rubber strap and blue aluminum bezel insert, as well as the BR 03-92 Diver Bronze, a limited edition with a black dial, bronze case and bezel, and aged leather strap.
To develop the BR 03-92 Diver, Bell & Ross consulted both watchmakers and experienced divers with the goal being to develop a professional-grade diving instrument that would meet the strict ISO 6425 international standards that timepieces must meet before being labeled as “diving watches.” Among these criteria are a minimum water resistance of 100 meters, a calibrated bezel for preselecting dive times that is protected against accidental rotation, and indexes that are legible at a predetermined distance while underwater. The BR 03-92 hits all these marks and then some: its squared ergonomic case, measuring 42 mm in diameter, is water-resistant to 300 meters. It is equipped with a 60-minute unidirectional bezel with a luminescent dot at 12 o’clock for orientation. Its crown is protected by an impact-resistant guard and is fitted with a rubber insert for easy handling.
Both the watch’s sapphire crystal and its caseback are thicker those of its predecessors. The caseback is 2.80 mm thick and the crystal, with its antireflective coating, is 2.85 mm thick. Inside the case is an inner cage made of soft iron, which protects the movement — the automatic BR-Cal.302, based on the Sellita SW 300.1 — from the effects of magnetic fields.
The applied indices on the maritime blue dial are filled with white Super-LumiNova, making for optimum contrast and legibility. The hour hand is colored yellow, which when the watch descends into the underwater depths will fade away in order to put the wearer’s focus squarely on the white, luminous minute hand, a safety measure that is ideal for diving. The date appears discreetly in a round window at 4:30.
