Showing at WatchTime New York 2015: Visconti Crystal Fire W107

We’re just a month away from the start of WatchTime New York, our biggest and most luxurious watch collectors’ event to date, taking place October 23-24 at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall and featuring more than a dozen watch brands displaying their latest timepieces. (Click here for event details, including a complete list of sponsoring brands, and to purchase tickets). Among the sponsors is Italian luxury-pen specialist Visconti, which launched its distinctive line of watches in 2013 and will be showcasing its new Crystal Fire W107 model.

The watch is the latest in Visconti’s Crystal Demo collection, which is inspired by the Florentine brand’s transparent “demonstrator” pens and boasts huge, see-through cases, forged from single blocks of sapphire, that offer an all-angles view of the movement inside while simultaneously protecting those exposed parts. The Crystal Fire’s case, made of polished, ruby-red sapphire, measures 47 mm wide by 52.10 mm high by 13.7 mm thick and is topped off by a bezel in 316L stainless steel with black PVD coating. The stainless steel crown, crown protectors, and caseback cover have micro-shot blasted and satin finishes. The lugs, which are secured by screws, are steel with a black PVD coating.

The Swiss-made movement, which Visconti developed with the specialists at TechnoTime, is dubbed Visconti Caliber VI-AC304-01. It is semi-skeletonized and features automatic winding, a frequency of 28,800 vph, a Glucydur balance wheel, and a lengthy five-day power reserve stored in a twin barrel. Various components of the movement have been enhanced with black soignée and soignée rhodium finishing.

The functions of the Visconti W107 Crystal Fire W107 include hours, minutes, and sweep seconds; a retrograde calendar, with hand at 1:30; and a hand-type power-reserve indicator (with a scale divided into five days) at 5 o’clock. The openworked dial in galvanic anthracite is satin-finished. The exclusively designed hour and minute hands have a luminescent coating, as do the hour indexes; the small indicator hands on the power reserve and retrograde date indicators are openworked. The watch comes on a water-resistant alligator strap, which Visconti says is made in-house at its facility in Florence, with a satin-finished, stainless steel clasp.
