BASELWORLD 2017:

Saving the Sharks: Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition (Update with Live Pictures)

Its multi-piece stainless steel case measures 45.5 mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 500 meters. Its screw-down crown is guarded by a crown protector. The unidirectional rotating bezel has the same polished, black ceramic inlay as its predecessors in the Aquis family, with a divers’ minute scale in white. The colors of the ocean are evident in the blue central seconds hand and the blue numerals on the minute scale that surrounds the gray dial.

Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition - back
The caseback features an embossing of a hammerhead shark.

The movement is Oris Caliber 752, based on the Sellita SW 220-1. In addition to its timekeeping functions, via central hours, minutes, and seconds hands, this self-winding movement powers a day-date function, displayed on the dial at 3 o’clock. The applied indices and polished nickel hour and minute hands are treated with Super-LumiNova; the luminous material also appears on the round “lollipop” of the blue central seconds hand. Covering the dial is a domed sapphire crystal with interior nonreflective coating. The watch’s screwed, steel caseback is embossed with the image of a hammerhead shark and the limited edition number.

Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition - box
The watch is presented in a special box with a hammerhead shark insignia.

The Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition is available on either a stainless steel link bracelet or a black rubber strap. Available in June 2017, and priced at $2,550, it comes in a special presentation box whose interior lid is also emblazoned with an illustration of a hammerhead shark.

It looks like the Rolex Submariner was in an orgy with a Blancpain 50 Fathoms and the Egerhard & Co Scagroof 300 that won the GPHG ( still having difficulty to digest this one) and the result was this new Oris. I cannot believe the lack of imagination of most watch designers. No wonder why the iWatches are slowly but surely taking over the wrist watches segment.
