Chopard has had a long relationship with the Mille Miglia race since its revival back in 1977. The brand has been the official timekeeper of the event since 1988 and has time and again released watches paying homage to the race. This year, Chopard dedicates the all new Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition timepiece to the 39th historical re-enactment of “The Race of the Red Arrow” 1000 Miglia race that takes place this year from the 16th to the 19th of June.
The Chopard Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition, also called the gentleman driver’s chronograph, comes in two editions; 1,000 pieces in stainless steel and 250 pieces in stainless steel and Chopard’s “ethical” 18K rose-gold. Both the timepieces sit comfortably on the wrist, at a 44-mm case size with sturdy lugs.
The closed caseback decorated with the “Brescia>Roma>Brescia” inscription and a checkered flag surrounding the “1000 Miglia” logo signifies the relationship between the timepiece and the historic rally. Another defining element of this racing-inspired watch is the polished ceramic tachymeter scale present on the bezel, which makes the watch a perfect tool for calculating a car’s average speed during the 1000 Miglia rally.
Sitting within the beautifully shaped case is the grey dial hosting the famous 1000 Miglia ‘Red Arrow’ motif alongside the semi-instantaneous date-display window at 3 o’ clock with a date magnifier, the chronograph counters in white and grey, and hands and hour markers coated in Super-LumiNova to further ensure the dial’s readability both during the day and at night. The combination of grey, white and red colors gives the new limited edition a strong visual identity.
As a timepiece dedicated to racing, it comes as no surprise that the movement beating at its heart must measure time dependably. The Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition model is powered by a chronometer-certified movement with a 48-hour power reserve and a stop-seconds function, housed in a case water-resistant to 100 meters and visible behind a glare-proofed sapphire crystal.
Strapped to either black calfskin leather with red stitching and inner rubber strap (stainless-steel version) or a black calfskin and black rubber strap (stainless steel and ethical 18-carat rose gold version), the Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition is a beacon of motorsport pedigree that stylishly identifies a true motorsport aficionado.

Absolutely gorgeous watch, the bezel width size is slim, elegance and yet sporty – a marriage of a dress watch and sports watch harmonised with the perfect size and font markings on the tachymeter is so well-done because it doesn’t look busy and cluttered on the narrow space, absolutely love it. The flat and not bulging date magnifier is fantastic, it is more a piece of art than just manifying purposes. No everyone is a fan of date display but I am. The new revised mimicky of the race track markings on the dial is nostalgic, very well abstracted and it feel like the watch is racing. The reduction of the watch thickness is very thoughtful. Like to thanks the team involved in the making of this watch, they have put in great effort that live up to the reputation of Chopard. To come out with a watch every two years and making it better than its predecessor is not a walk in the park, especially you can’t change something which is already so well-done and not change for the sake of changing, nonetheless you have done it very well this time.
