Rado True Thinline Anima Debuts in Matte Olive-Green Ceramic Case

Rado was innovating with high-tech ceramics before much of the rest of the watchmaking world, and the design-oriented brand continues to push boundaries in the use of that material as well as expand its color palette. The latest example is the new True Thinline Anima, a limited edition that features its first ceramic watch case in matte olive green.

Rado True Thinline Anima (Ref. 766.6112.3.031)

“Anima” is a Latin word meaning “air,” “breath,” or “soul,” and refers to the openness of the watch’s extensively skeletonized movement, an ETA A31.L02, which has also been customized with bridges made from black anodized aluminum, an additional weight-reducing feature that is characteristic of Rado. The olive green flange has rhodium-colored applied indices and hands. The window at 6 o’clock showcases the current date on the fully exposed, skeletonized calendar disk. The self-winding movement offers a 64-hour power reserve and has a rotor with a black DLC coating.

The openworked movement includes a skeletonized date disk.

The matte olive-green ceramic used for the ultra-thin, monobloc case is an entirely new shade of the lightweight, scratch-resistant material and the result, says Rado, of “an elaborate development process.” It measures 40 x 44.8 mm in diameter and 10.8 mm in thickness and includes a sapphire exhibition caseback framed by a titanium ring with an engraving indicating the watch as a “LIMITED EDITION ONE OUT OF 2020.”

The black DLC rotor echoes the look of the anodized aluminum bridges.

Also constructed from the new high-tech ceramic is the watch’s bracelet, which attaches to the wrist via a three-fold clasp made of titanium. The True Thinline Anima is available as of July 2020 and priced at $3,000.

Regardless of price, this is one of the few really attractive timepieces to come out in recent times.
